Addiscombe Win Stuff!
Back in the good ol' days (tm) of the 1950s
Addiscombe used to win events up and down the country including lots of
national championships as well as the setting of British records.
Every few years since then we would have a rider here or there in the
results that would
win a prize for Addiscombe but victories got a bit thin on the ground over
recent years.
Over the last year and a half we have had
so many novices join the club and it turned out that quite a few of them
were pretty fast and enjoyed competing. Whilst we value the social aspect of
riding its also good now and again to celebrate all those riders who have
won events for Addiscombe.
This is the roll call of victors for 2001:
Addiscombe
team awarded Moon Trophy SCCU 25mile TT 22nd April for over 30s
riders (Paul Tunnell, Chris Colford, Doug Rollins)
Steve
Bayliss won a round of the National Espoirs Trophy Road Race on
23rd June when he was first under 23 rider and second overall in the 2
stage race whilst riding with the DeNardi team.
Mark
Cole awarded Taccagni Trophy for 1st handicap in the SCCU 50 mile
TT on 1st July. The trophy dates from 1875
Addiscombe's
novices get the team prize in the Sussex CA 12 hour championships
on 12th July (Robert Wilson, Richard Claridge, Nick Mann)
Sylvain
Garde won a round of the Sports mtb competition at Beastway on 19th
July (as well as getting 4th in the singlespeed world champs a few weeks
earlier)
Paul
Tunnell and Chris Colford won the Lea Valley CC tandem 30 mile TT
on 29th September
Steve
Bayliss won the Rainham round of the London Cyclo Cross on 4th
November
Addiscombe's
off roaders won the team prize at the Frylands cyclo cross on 11th
November (Garde, Richard Munday, Kevin Barkwick)
Addiscombe's
off roaders also won the team prize at the Addiscombe promoted cyclo cross
at Frylands on 16th December (Bayliss, Garde, Munday)
Congratulations to all of you, not just
those who are listed but all of you who go out and race in the hope of
helping the team to victory and also to all the non-riders who support and
cheer our members on. Well done everyone!
