As an ozzie photo journalist I have had the extreme pleasure of meeting David Duffield and working together on a few races over the past few years. Thought your website could do with a few of my piccies so your readers could get a bit more sense of the mighty man at work and play with some of his colleagues.

These were taken on the TdF 2000, except for the one with Liggs and Jacob's Creek Winery CEO Steven Couch, on a special trip to the Barossa Valley at the 2001 Jacobs Creek Tour Down Under.

The one in the gantry shows the conditions they work under, two tiny monitors with a laptop and mixer between, absolutely no elbow room and in David's case he also has a mighty mobile library of manuals, directories, books, brochures, menus, wine lists, notes, etc for reference. Just imagine..the action suddenly gets hot and there's an attack...you've got Chasse, Fignon et al in your left ear, Hingermann and Rominger in the right, Delgado and whoever down the way a bit and who ever else is squeezed in there...the computer is churning out info...the headphones have race radio, TV France, the Director back in Paris, yourself, your offsider and a buzz in your ears!!! No wonder he makes blunders!!! But what an amazing sight to watch.

I've always appreciated David's commitment to women and cycling....being in the gantry when Avril Millar was interviewed after the David's first stage win last year was awesome. Duffers was determined to get her point of view and is ever mindful to think of his commentary going out to both sexes.

He is a legend and a huge inspiration and role model to me and many others.

Cheers and thanks for a bloody good web site!!! Does anyone know of any of his Tour Down Under Blunders!!!???

Nisa, Thank you so much for sharing your work with the rest of us. The pictures are excellent and will bring a smile to the thousands of DD's fans who frequent these pages. Hopefully we will have our people listening for his commentary during the next Tour Down Under and reporting back for us. In the meantime he does seem to have a thing for the Australians - "The bold Stewy", "The battling ozzie", "AC Cobra", "Put another one on the barbie" ,"fizzy brown stuff" all spring to mind as frequently uttered Duffieldisms. Hope you continue to enjoy what we have got lined up on this site and please keep popping back regularly.

Thanks everyone for the emails. Please keep sending any info you might have on the great man and for those of you out there who don't like David's style of commentary then in the words of the man himself:

"If you can't stand the heat of the kitchen then don't come into it!"

Has anyone got any pictures of themselves with David? It would be great if we could display them on here, perhaps with his autograph is someone has that as well.
