Message from the Webmaster
Greetings everybody to the latest
incarnation of The Agreeable World of the Addiscombe Cycling Club's
website. The previous site that represented us on the world wide web was
originally meant to contain just five pages about us but as our club took
off the web site grew to an almost unmanageable size reflecting all
that was going on in the Croydon cycling scene. Hopefully this new website
will be easier to maintain and feature many new easy to find articles
written by our club members.
You may find this hard to believe but a
couple of years ago Addiscombe was a very small cycling club with just a
handful of members competing in cycling events. The idea was dreamt up
that a web presence might get our unique brand of fun out to the masses
and over time increase the number of novice cyclists joining up with us.
The website went live and the response was
truly phenomenal. New people joined us at an incredible rate. We are now
one of the country's premier multi-discipline cycling clubs and as we
partake in all types of cycling we are now more accessible for all
cyclists, whatever their background, than at any time before.
This web site didn't do it on its own.
Because we were moving forward in a new direction it acted as the catalyst
that was needed to get all of our other members dreaming up schemes to get
cycling happening in Croydon again. People organised more novice
race days, road race training days were scheduled, our club HQ was hastily
converted into a keep fit studio for the hour preceding our weekly
clubnight, club members were interviewed for a local extreme sports TV
programme, weekend club runs took on a new form with experienced riders
giving up their training time to introduce beginners and show them the fun
that can be had on two wheels and the club even organised training
holidays in Spain for those that could find the time for two weeks in the
sun.
All around Addiscombe Cycling Club there is
a sense of renewed enthusiasm which is proving highly infectious. Members
are now trying previously untasted aspects of cycle sport such as mtb
downhill and are constantly looking for new ways for the club to continue
to grow and improve.
Hopefully this website shows some of the
energy that is surging through ACC at the moment. With any luck you
will enjoy reading what we get up to and realise that you don't have to be
too serious or even very fit to enjoy riding what is the best form of
transportation ever devised. You might even find that you want to come out
with us and see first hand what we get up to. Plenty of other people
just like you have turned their general interest in this website into a
real love of cylcing via Addiscombe Cycling Club.
Enjoy this website but don't spend too long
browsing through it. Remember you could be out cycling instead!
