Graham Meets Eddy Merckx

So here it is, finally we have the proof. Agreeable Graham has just been round to Addiscombe web central and given us all the lowdown on the day he met Eddy Merckx. Those of you who know Graham won't be surprised to discover that he has the ear of many of the stars in the cycling world and met his idol Eddy at Manchester Velodrome when Chris Boardman was going for his World Hour Record (before the UCI changed all the rules and stipulated that you had to do it on a 1930s Rudge with dimmed front lamp in case of air raids). Anyway it turns out Graham used to take himself up there regularly for the World Masters Track championships in which he actually used to compete . Back in 1995 he collected Addiscombe's 24 hour trophy after battling for twenty two and a half hours in the National 24 hour championships. He should have been battling for twenty four hours but he had collapsed during the night and and slept for an hour and a half in the gutter before being woken and getting back on his bike  to continue. Anyway, we digress. A few weeks after riding for 24 hours Graham rode the Worlds Masters Track Championships flying 200 metre sprint in 11.3 seconds which sounds a lot more fun than riding a 24. He then went up the following year and got roped into riding the first Olympic Sprint with a couple of other riders. The year after he was up there as a spectator and that was when he went track centre and met his old mate Eddy. We had heard stories from other Agreeables that he was chatting away with the great Eddy Merckx while Boardman was getting ready to do battle but we never really believed it until now. So here for all the doubting Thomases out there is the proof. Enjoy.
