Road Roundup
The last few months have been full of
opportunity for the Addiscombe road riders. Unfortunately it would take up
too much space if we had a separate feature for each week's activities so
we'll try and include a summary of a few of them below and save the
details for the member's club magazine which is one of the benefits
of joining.
France
One of the best rides of the year happened
when 23 riders met in Calais on a Saturday morning rather than Croydon! A
real mixed group enjoyed the quiet country lanes in the Pas de Calais area
stopping off to see some local sites as well as get watered in some of the
local bars along the 60 mile route. Infact it was so good that another
trip, possibly to Belgium will be happening very soon and this will
hopefully become a regular feature.

Mallorca
Some of our riders have discovered the joys
of budget airlines and this means that year round cycling weather is just
a short flight out of London. Mallorca (Majorca) seems to be a favourite
at the moment with lots of club members finding cheap places to stay in
the West of the island and testing themselves on the mountain passes that
dominate the area. Whislt not spending all day lazing on the beach of
course!

Brighton
Over 20 riders recently went on a club run
From Croydon down to Brighton and back again. Setting out in two groups
equipped with maps and directions to train stations incase of tiredness
they all made it safely down to the seafront where they enjoyed a healthy
dinner before the more adventourous (lunatic!) ones set off on the long
ride back to Croydon. Even with this many going to Brighton the regular
Saturday ride still had 25 people out on it enjoying the Surrey lanes
including a whole complement of mountainbikers testing out their new
slicks.
Fun 10 Mile Time Trial
We broke some records this year with out
annual Presidents 10 mile fun time trial. Traditionally this end of season
celebration has a high turnout but this year we really pushed the boat out
with the largest amount ever turning up including several mtbers, a pair
of tandems, a 1950s country gent complete with roadster and a cycling
ninja on a bike with a music soundsystem. Some people also used the occasion
to take part in their first ever race and were surprised at how enjoyable
it is to get the adrenaline going and feel the wind rushing past your face
when you really get going.
A ninja and a country gent rode around on a
shopping bike 2 up!

This was Darren's first ever time trial and
consequently he won the best improver prize from President Joyce.
