Ballbuster

Hands up who is doing the Ballbuster this year. It is a great race and ideal for all of you triathlon wannabees who don't like to swim. I don't know if there is a team prize but we could be in with a chance if there is. It is on Nov the 1st this year which is a Saturday.

It involves an 8 mile run which finishes with box hill, it is then a 24 mile bike which involves going up box hill three times, then the 8 mile run again. I did it last year and it was a killer. Although the feeling when you finish is superb, the feeling of accomplishment, not the feeling in your legs, that hurts.

I may do it but have yet to convince myself that I want to go through that pain again.

Cheers

I've done it the last 2 years and hope to do it this year as well.

We've been lucky with the weather (sunny, though very cold in 2001 - foggy but warmer in 2002).
Just hope we don't have any of the legendary driving wind and rain that people have mentioned from previous years !

Your right Maria, it is the 8 November, must have taken down the date incorrectly or they have changed it recently.

Would love to give this a go. Do you need to have previous experience to qualify? Over the last 6 weeks have been running 9 miles a week as prep for the Nike 10k this Sunday. Would need to concentrate on my running, hopefully the cycling should look after itself.

That is pretty similar to the training I was doing last year for this event so you should be fine. Well maybe not fine but you should be able to finish.

You don't need to qualify for this race - just get your entry in early. Apparently this year they are reducing the number of participants as National Trust have a restriction on the number of parking spaces.

Do as much running training as you can. That final 8 mile run can really catch you out.

Ball Buster

Postby ajay khandelwal » Mon Sep 08, 2003 1:17 pm

bring it on! I've just printed out the application form. Entry is £41 + £4 levy for non BTA members on line. I completely new to this running malarkey, and will have to train from scratch. If a tough-man like Marek says this is painful, you know its going to be fun. Plus, ever since my Mallorcan training camp rival crushed me in a time trial (Maria David), I've been looking for a come back...I hope to see lots more first timers taking part too (makes me look better)

It is unlikely I will be doing the race this year, spent too much money on events already this year, but I don't mind doing some training with any of you. If you fancy a run or ride in the evening or at the weekend then give me a call and if I am free I will be up for it.

I do recommend attempting running up box hill a few times so you get an idea of what you are in for. Else, any hill training should give you a fair idea. Of course the hardest thing is really the fact that you have to run, bike then run again. Try going for a run when you get back from the club run on Saturday, that should give you an idea of the pain you will be in.

My mobile number is 07753 777084. I live close to Coulsdon and work in the City to give you an idea of location.

Cheers
