Ride with a difference, 0830, 2/11/14

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Ride with a difference
I am inviting you to come with me on a river cycle ride to Waltham Abbey.
Meeting East Croydon Station, 08.30.am Sunday 2nd November – prompt departure
The ride is about 55 miles and goes North via minor roads and cycle paths and passing by Pool River, Ladywell, Deptford crossing the Thames via the Greenwich foot tunnel in front of the Cutty Sark then onwards near or on the Thames Path to Trinity Buoy Wharf stopping here for breakfast.
We then head through a factory estate where we pick up the Lee River towpath near the Olympic Park. Onwards to Hackney Marshes, Tottenham Marshes, Pickett's Lock etc. as far as Waltham Abbey for lunch. Most of this is flat well made gritty towpaths with occasional cobbles. We return firstly via the same route but then heading South through Stamford Hill, Hoxton and Shoreditch, crossing the river at Southwark Bridge then home via Camberwell, Dulwich, Gypsy Hill etc.
This is longish ride; it will take all day as we may only average 10mph – We'll need to press on so in case of punctures it will be best to split the group and proceed – having the ride downloaded on a Garmin or smart phone map will be an advantage. I recommend sturdy road bike, hybrid or mountain bike with slick tyres. Bring lights (sunset is 4.32pm) and a bell.
It would be useful to have provisional numbers because I need to call ahead to the cafes so please respond and keep in touch in case of changes.
This is a drop box address where you can find the ride's gpx file – This is more of a guide than the definitive route since there are some detours due to various street changes and construction activities.

Sign me up for it. Sounds fun. I'll have to stick with someone who has a garmin (or else just bring an oldfashioned map and hope for the best).

If this is the official sign on point, sign me on. Hopefully I'll make it to the start given it's only a Kilometre from my house without puncture.

Gipsy Hill might be fun if I bring the single speed but I know I can get up Dulwich Wood Ave/Farquhar Rd on it, so might have to deviate from the route slightly at that point (it's a slightly more pleasant route anyway apart from the right turn onto Crystal Palace Parade).

There is a let out half way up Gypsy which we didn't do because we wanted tea at Cadence - not sure what difference it makes but it looked interesting

At the moment I am still contemplating doing this ride - rain seems to be promised for later in the day and we can take a view once we are on the ride and tailor it to suit conditions. NB Dropbox link for downloading route - bells and lights potentially needed

Looked too wet and windy to me, maybe it was drier your way.
