Novice Race Training

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Sorry to be pedantic, but you've always been entitled to your 4th cat licence. But now you are eligible to ride Surrey League races as a 4th cat. :D

Good luck with it.

Well done Steve. Crack on with the training now.

Surrey League have posted more dates so no excuses for the rest of you to complete the course and start racing :)

Paul,

Do you know the reasoning behind the training days? Is it due to an increase in novice racers or to try and ensure a reasonable standard of riding?

I think it's a bit of everything - improve standard of riding, tactics, reduce accidents, coaches making money etc. I don't think it's a bad thing if you'd new to cycling and havnt ridden much in groups.

It's the way the country is going. You won't be allowed to take a s**t soon without going on a training course first.

They covered some rather basic points but overall I feel the session was good experience. Got my first race coming up at the end of Feb so time to up the training a notch.

That's what I thought, will have to book some dates later in the year if my interest holds, might just be easier to race with the LVRC!

Can't seem to find it on the Surrey League site, do you have to have a BC licence to do the training days?

I don't think you need a licence but worth checking when you book.

So you are going to do some racing then Dominic?

That's the plan, try to diversify a little from just TTing. That's what annoyed me about them stopping 4th cats from the handicaps because they were good just to turn up to and enter on the line. Can't do these dates because I am racing on the 8th and 15th. MIght even come to Dunsfold on the 7th to spectate so you can all show me how it's done

Following the two training days we are issued (by post) a Surrey Cycle Racing League Accreditation Card which has to be presented when signing on
On the back of the card is your personal info: name, number, club, category, address

( I tried to add a photo of card but it says image too big?)
