ACC 10 sat 29th Aug

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Did my first TT ( well in almost - first in 40 years) being a new ACC member

Seemed to be some very fast times - winner was under 20 mins! - must have been perfect conditions

I managed 28.28 for my first TT - not bad for a 56 year old ( I thought ) only to be told I was 1 min 14 secs off the VTTA standard ! so room for improvement !

Found it quite difficult to know how to pace myself - can anyone in the club suggest some training methods to help me gain that extra 74 seconds?

Had never ridden the course, now that I have that might help so I know where to push a bit more.

President 10 is on the same course in a few weeks time. See thread in this section. So perfect opportunity.

Good point by Ben.

TTs are hard. Pacing it so you're empty on the line - not 500m before the line, not 500m past the line - is a matter of practise. For a first bash in 40 years, that's not a bad time. The winner is a professional BTW and the fastest vet is notoriously fast (if a little disloyal).

It's a nasty course with that long drag so near the start. Very easy to see your speed dropping and overcook it there. Also you lose loads of time if you don't push over the top of the rise and get the speed right up on the start of the downhill. Don't ease off until you're really going 35mph+.

I did my PB when I accidentally left my Garmin at home.
