Clubrun 14th March, bit windy...

Postby Marek » Sat Mar 14, 2015 3:51 pm

Got going from EG a bit late today and with the headwind all the way to CSS Chris and I were not surprised to see the training group about to set out of the station, oh the joy of having to jump straight on without having a wee break after riding up.

The pace out of CSS was pretty frantic, it would seem that Rogan may have had one too many espressos this morning as he was absolutely nailing at the front.

The three steps were pretty quick but manageable but then over the top unfortunately Rob had an altercation with a car on the roundabout, and then Rogan's bike decided to blow up. Now we know why he was going so quick, he had no doubt overfilled his wheels with helium. Thankfully Rob seemed to be ok.

We hung about for a bit but a few of us were getting cold, and as the group had been so big, Dave K, Jim B, Chris and myself decided to pootle on. We took it reasonably easy but soon went past some of the other groups that had overtaken us. Dave K decided to sit in with the 20s and Jim, Chris and I did a 3 up towards Rusper. Chris died a death here so Jim and I slowed up, to then find that Dave K and Tony plus a couple of others had put their heads down and made their way over, which was great for the Dual Carriageway.

Dual carriageway was good with some nice through and off. George then decided to jump the group by taking an off road detour by one of the roundabouts near the Ifield turn off. Very amusing but he got a good gap. Needed a few strong turns from Jim and I to pull him back. It was then strung out a bit by Dave K who brought it up to the sprint where out pops Mr Broomfield for his speciality and takes it by a good few bike lengths.

Headed over to Box Hill with a few others, it got a bit split up out of the cafe as groups departed a bit sporadically, I had to chase down a group of 4. Then we slowed a bit to see if others were going to join us but no one seemed to be in sight. So we ventured on. Unfortunately Anthony B???? (a pro triathlete) and I seemed to drop the other riders through the lanes so when we got to the climb before going over to Box we slowed down to wait, and then a larger group arrived.

Up Box Hill we took it nice and steady and then I decided to ramp it up a bit on the final part only to be jumped by the young lad who is racing for Bespoke this year (didn't catch his name but he only weight 65kgs so not surprised he beat my fat butt up there).

I then peeled off and a lonely ride home into the wind. Pretty brutal out there today. 135km in the bank and felt pretty good.

Cheers

Is that the cyclist greeting :?: "How much do you weight?" not "Hi, My name is ...., what's yours?" :P

P.s. he makes me look fat, and I'm a 68kg climbing whippet

Absolutely, I have no interest in his name, just need to have an excuse as to why he beat me up the hill. :D

Cheers

86kg tall bloke.
