Redmon GP des Gentlemen 19/10/14

19th October was the Redmon GP de Gentlemen on the sporting 15.4mile Rusper GS483 course. Addiscombe interest was:
Rob towing a lady from Kingston Phoenix; Jonathan towing Terry; and myself towing Paul (PVT).

The first five miles is the out leg of the Club 10 Homwood course and was in to a strong headwind, it was pretty tough going. Then it was left and up to Rusper which also had a little bit of headwind along with the draggy climbing sections. I dragged Paul quite hard out to here as I knew we’d get some respite on the return through the lanes, albeit with a bit of slow cornering on damp, slippery bends.

Shovelling along nicely and bringing the average speed up after the tough first 7 miles. Through Newdigate and then flying along a flat section when we hit a couple of horses, not literally but it was a case of kill all speed and with a car coming th other way had to wait to pass. Very frustrating as there was a bit of drag coming and we had lost all momentum in to it. Hey, ho back up to speed and the final push to the finish.

Pleased with the ride and time with the windy start but annoyed by the horse trip up as they stopped us getting under 40 minutes and a top 10 spot on scratch.

Scratch result:
1st David Pollard towed by Michael Hutchinson 34:28
11th Paul Tunnell towed by Andrew Green 40:24 (damn horses, we were only 8 seconds off 10th)
=23rd Terry Hill towed by Jonathan Pontin 43:11
37th Rachel Watkins (Kingston Phoenix) towed by Robert Royle-Evatt 0:47:07

Vet Standard Result:
1st David Pollard towed by Michael Hutchinson +6:46
12th Paul Tunnell towed by Andrew Green +0:26
14th Terry Hill towed by Jonathan Pontin -0:20
24th Rachel Watkins (Kingston Phoenix) towed by Robert Royle-Evatt -2:00

I don't know - horses eh. Don't pay road tax, no insurance, riders wear those tight trouser things ...
