Good hard race yesterday, only me from ACC, Adam and Phil were there too. Not as cold as expected, but fairly windy.

Spoke to someone this week who recommended me to try keep in as much energy as possible, which I really meant to have a go at. Then from the gun I changed my mind  and decided to try and chase as many attacks as possible, just to try and get into that elusive break, even if it meant I’d be spat out after only one lap.

The first 20min didn’t seem all that hard, there were lulls in the pace at times. The Easterly wind was uncommon for Hillingdon, and hit you hard in the face on the two sections, after the first hairpin, and before the final climb. There was an early crash on the back straight, had to ride in the grass to avoid a fallen rider.

It certainly felt much harder than last week being in the first front dozen for most of the race and constantly responding to attacks, even if I didn’t actually make it to the front more than 3-4 times. I had to go right into the red a handful of times, and the more it went the more it felt that if I got in a break, I probably wouldn’t last for too long. I made sure I followed wheels and moves of the likes of C. Moores, Phil or Adam.

At some point I think we lapped a big group of 20 that had become detached from the back. After a big attack, Moores, Meadows and Angus Macalister a NP who had been making awesome solo attacks beforehand (I'm not sure he didn't actually break away on his own), attacked again on the climb, and the rest of us could only watch them disappear. Eventually came to a big bunch sprint, started a bit too far backwards, ended up about 12th-14th, a few places behind Adam. Another great workout and awesome fun.

That big fella in the blue and white (3rd pic) doesn't look too happy at the amount of shelter he's getting from you  .

Better race yesterday. No bollocking after this time, although could you hear the abuse we were getting mid race Sylv!?

Angus broke away on his own after only about 5/6 laps, a truly awesome ride.

Moores/Meadows got away just before we had to overtake the autobus! Initially my team mate Josh was with them to begin with, but couldn't hold them. I then got close to getting across to them, but unfortunately didn't have the legs either. But in our defence, Chris has been racing all winter, and Toby only just missed out on a place on the GB Academy in Italy and is moving to Belgium in the next few weeks... We've only just started doing speed work!

We totally dominated the bunch sprint though, and having told Josh to follow me for the final few laps, the cheeky bugger then beat me! He got the jump on me at the start of the sprint, but faded towards the line, but was weaving around like a drunk meaning I had to freewheel several times and not be able to pass. Approaching the line I looked under my left arm and we were well clear so I sat up, unfortunately Alex Murrison (Glendene) was on my right and just lunged past me for the line. Doh!

Perf's next week...

Huh, I don't understand, how could you have dominated the sprint and then got beaten by someone coming up your right side. Anyhow, it sounds like you are going pretty well for early season, good luck in the perfs.

Cheers

Difficult to see what I mean if you weren't there I guess. But apart from the three of us (Josh, Alex and Me) were well clear of the rest of the bunch in the sprint. Once we went, there was no following us. I didn't realise Alex had come with us until it was too late! Apart from him, there were a good few bike lengths before the next rider...

I'm going Ok, but not brilliant. I'm much fitter than I was this time last year, and can power along all day on training rides at the moment. But I have no race speed yet, I'll be suprised if any of us (Josh Cunningham, Doug Baldock, Jaco Elhers or myself) feature at all next week. If we get a top 20 I think that would be a good result. As there will be people who have trained for the Perf's, and we ain't! We're not even on an easy week training wise, so I'll probably be tired before I even start!

Next week... Hopefully... New kit always takes ages to produce, unless your a pro team!

Actually I just thought...

Angus' bike, he who won... Cervelo Soloist SLC SL, Campag Record & Lightweights... Bet that weighs less than 6.8kg! TUT TUT

Should be disqualified...

Yeah quite tall, Paul. He's the dude in the last pic on Sylv's post. I did hear something of him being an ex-rower. Sorry to break it to you Paul, but he's gonna whip your ass in those 3rd cat races! (just like he whipped mine already!) I hope you beat him at rowing a few times to keep him honest...

Sylv, what's your max HR?

Maybe on a flat course but dont count on it, I know his weakness.

Ive beaten him and he has beaten me and we have competed in the same boat together. My pwr/wgt was a little higher.
