Off road rides have really branched out in the last couple of months.
As well as our regular cross country rides which are a great way for
people to get into mountainbiking we also have more riders who are feeling
confident enough to branch out into "freeriding". For those of
you unfamiliar with this term it simply means riding your bike over
whatever obstacles the trail throws at you be they steep downhills jumps,
big drop offs, steps of death. Get the picture?
We have freeride days on occasional Sundays and also more regularly on
Saturdays. A lot of the club have now invested in bikes specially made for
this purpose with big travel front forks and rear suspension to correct
mistakes while they perfect their heavy landings. The pictures below were
taken as people started to discover this discipline at a well known
location known as the Wall of Death due to its vertical appearance as you
approach it for the first time on two wheels.

Most of us are content to watch others
injure themselves without risking it ourselves.

One of the great things riding around
Addington is the number of junked bikes you find dumped in the bushes near
the burnt out cars. The mtb ride managed to salvage the parts from one of
them and perform "upgrades" to Cushtie's bike.
