Letter From Italy Part 1
I am at this moment in a town called Salo on
the edge of Lake Garda which is very beautiful. The rest of the team are doing
the Coppa Sangao which finishes here.
We are racing nearby tomorrow in a harder race
which has in the past been won by Davide Rebelin and lots of other big names
who I can't remember off hand.
Its going to be very hilly although its not a
pro race but a very big amateur race with 1.6 UCI points on offer.
Last weekend we did 2 races in Croatia with the
pro team. On Saturday for the the first race the team plan was for us
amateur guys to try and get in all the early moves. Tom Anderson managed to
get in the first break of 15 which stayed away for about 2 laps of the 4.
Anyway when it got caught the race went bananas and I have never been in a
race which went so fast!
Everybody who was strong enough was attacking
and the pro De Nardi guys were going with all the moves and keeping the race
together. On the last lap we climbed the final hill and got over that ok and I
was feeling fairly strong while DeNardi got on the front and started driving
it. We all got called up to the front , us three amateur guys were going
through and off with the pros trying to set up the sprint for our main man Jan
Bokowski, a German. Anyway he got second which was not bad (!) but the next
day in a similar race on a harder course Jan managed to win. Everybody
was very pleased and we got money, a thank you and a nice meal to celebrate.
Got to go, in a rush hopefully send another one
soon
Bye
Stephen
