Letter From Italy Part 3
Hello people.
Have you ever ridden at about 50mph behind a car?
I have! Our training today consisted of riding out towards the mountains then
on the drags before the mountains we started riding behind the car. The director
sportif obviously wanted to make it hard today as we really started shifting on
the way out. I was finding it ok but then we did a loop around some fields and
there were very strong winds and as we generally do through and off behind
the car the hardest bit is when you are at the back then going back down the
drags he obviously wanted to see how fast we could go. We were spinning out the
53/11 and still doing through and off and eventually we stopped and just rode
back gently. All this after 4 hours hard yesterday.
As I have nothing else to do at the moment and I have use of a computer I
thought I would tell you about my diet.
For breakfast:
Crunchynut Cornflakes with raisins on top, orange juice, toast with jam no
butter and if I'm really hungry a banana as well.
On the ride:
Maybe a banana, some jam sandwiches and very little energy drink as it is
very expensive.
Lunch:
Usually pasta with my new special sauce of bolognaise from the jar, grated
carrot, tomato and onion, yogurt and maybe some fruit some bread.
Dinner:
Tonight is lasagna with potatoes and salad. Generally it varies between
pasta, rice and potatoes and sometimes a pizza as they are pretty cheap. I also
sometimes eat cereal before bed.
When the season really gets going most races are based around really big
climbs so there is a big emphasis on being really thin as generally you have to
be a climber for most events. I had my fat percentage done by the team recently
and I am down to 5.7 % and am now 67.5 kg.
I received a package from Mark this morning with lots of magazines and
the Addiscombe Gazette. After reading old English and Italian magazines since
I've been here it was great to read some new stuff and stuff about the
Addiscombe. I see Nick Mann has a centre spread in Cycling Today magazine along
with my brother in another photo.
I'm not racing until I think the 16th march in a Croatian 3day stage race.
Its rated 2.5UCI so some pro teams will be there. You can read about DeNardi
cycling team's link with Fassobortolo on www.denardi.it
Things are good at the moment although I'm quite tired so I'll speak to you
soon. I hope all at the Addiscombe is good and everybody is training hard. Thank
you for letting me relieve my boredom for a bit. Also I hear that in Cycling
Weekly it said that Tom ,Ross and Tom Barras were racing here with Dave Rayner
funding Tom Barras is not here and Tom Anderson, Russ Muir and me don't receive
any funding at all!
Ciao for now (I'm very hungry!)
Steve
