Road Race

Hillingdon Part 3

An open Road Race for 4th & Ladies Categories under BCF rules by the Team Sport & Publicity 4th August 2001.

These events are ideally suited to the first time road racers and also to those that have aspirations to improve and become third category riders.

The race was over 51km and would therefor have BCF points available for the first ten places at the end of the race.

Nine Agreeables lined up at the start. To all those present it must have looked like we were far and away the biggest club in the division. A few other clubs had two riders. Everywhere you saw Agreeables and an organiser from another club actually said "I don't know how you do it, getting all these new people into the sport". Marvellous.

Our riders were (in no particular order) Andy Montgomery, Richard Claridge, Dave Kennett, Richard Munday, Steve Dennis, Steve Hehir, Pete Adams, Brian Tidey, and Michael Kazimierski.

All the Agreeables helped make a great race of it. I would never have known that several were completely new to the sport. What's more, all the new members that started with us at the beginning of the year are already showing significantly improved performance, most encouraging indeed. Joyce, asked me if we had any team orders and I said " yes, to win it, of course". As with every race there were many, but ifs and if onlys at the end. There were several moves where the Addiscome nearly got away. In spite of everyone's best efforts it all came down to a bunch sprint. The Addiscombe did well to collect sixth place with Dave Kennett, seventh place with Richard Claridge and eighth place with Richard Munday. All the Agreeables finished and it was a very exiting and enjoyable day apart from the crashing bit. Get well soon Steve H.

I do hope that now some competition has been tasted that we may see a few more having a go next time. I do believe we are not far away from completely taking an event over, with nearly every rider an Agreeable.

I must say a big "Thank you, very much indeed" to our friends for their support and helping us on the day.

Well done everyone, I do hope everybody enjoyed it as much as I did.

Yours in sport

Keith Knight
