Senior Road Race Categories
& BCF Points
This is only meant to be a brief description
squashed onto one page only so there is loads missing….If you want the full
brief look to the British Cycling Federation Rule book. Definition of 'Senior',
any member 19 years of age, or older, from 1st January. Definition of 'Vet', any
member 40 years of age, or older, from 1st January.
4th Cat. Any new senior member. Or any member who
failed to gain any BCF points in the previous season.
3rd Cat. As a 4th Cat, once 6 BCF points are
gained you become a 3rd Cat. The points must be won in a single racing season.
To retain a 3rd Cat license for the following season a single BCF point is
required.
2nd Cat. As a 3rd Cat, once 30 BCF points are
gained you become a 2nd Cat. The points must be won in a single racing season.
To retain a 2nd Cat license for the following season 20 BCF points are required.
1st Cat. As a 2nd Cat, once 100 BCF points are
gained you become a 1st Cat. The points must be won in a single racing season.
To retain a 1st Cat license for the following season 40 BCF points are required.
Elite Category. As a 1st Cat, once 200 BCF points
are gained you become an Elite. The points must be won in a single racing
season. There are lots of other words to the definitions in the BCF rule book
but you get a flavour of the requirements above. Note that at each level
increment you do start with Nil points.
BCF License Points Tables The points to be
achieved in races as per the BCF rules. The ones that apply to us generally look
like…
Races up to 50 km 1st = 6 points 2nd = 5 points
3rd = 4 points 4th = 3 points 5th = 2 points 6th = 1 point
Races of 51 to 100 km 1st = 15 points 2nd = 13
points 3rd = 10 points 4th = 8 points 5th = 6 points 6th = 5 points 7th = 4
points 8th = 3 points 9th = 2 points 10th = 1 point
Races of 101 to 130 km 1st = 20 points 2nd = 18
points 3rd = 16 points 4th = 14 points 5th = 12 points 6th = 10 points 7th = 9
points 8th = 8 points 9th = 7 points 10th = 6 points 11th =5 points 12th = 4
points 13th = 3 points 14th = 2 points 15th = 1 point
Note that in any Surreyleague
event, Surreyleague points are gained and although similar are not always
awarded the same as BCF points. Surreyleague points are turned into prize money
given at the end of the season. Be aware that the Surreyleague handicap points
are for fun and have no BCF equivalent. That's right handicaps mean diddly BCF
points, they are training rides only but good fun ones at that!
Yours in sport,
