SERC 2 Up Time Trial 2001
26.5 miles doesn't sound that far when its
down on paper describing an event you're thinking of entering but when
you have to ride 26.5 miles on rolling heavy rutted wet roads it is a
different prospect as Addiscombe found out when they rode the SERC 2-up
time trial on Easter Sunday. The idea of a
2-up is that you and your partner can ride faster than normal as you take
turns sheltering behind each other before coming to the front and riding
into the wind a little bit harder than you would be able to if you were on
your own. The course for the SERC event is a lot tougher than any of the
Addiscombe riders who entered were expecting. The constant rolling terrain
meant there was a lot of out of the saddle efforts which negated some of
the benefit to be had from sheltering behind your partner. Addiscombe
had 7 pairs in this event and a lot of spectators and at one point there
were so many of us at the start line it was beginning to look like an
Addiscombe benefit! Most of our pairs were trying this type of event for
the first time and all rode well with some of the riders finding the
course a real challenge.
