Tandem for Sale

Postby Sarah_M » Mon Mar 31, 2008 12:42 pm

I have a tandem for sale. Built for touring rather than speed. Nice components and cost about 2 grand several years ago. However, it has been sitting in a none too water tight shed for 4 years and came to light when the shed was pulled down. Therefore, I am selling it for about £250 ONO. Anyone interested or know anyone who might be?

My interest is tweaked, although not sure where I could fit it in our shed. But any more details? Any damage from sitting in a leaky shed for a few years? Is it aluminium or steel? Make and model? 26" or 700c wheels? Rider heights? (e.g. my wife is 4'11" and I'm 5'9").

I think you can have individual ones on each crank. I'm sure i've seen it somewhere, I could be wrong

Yeah, and SRM. But I would be interested to see what sort of power two strong guys could do on a Tandem. Someone somewhere must have some data!

It is a Dawes. I haven't ridden it but it seems in pretty good nick. I have cycled on the touring bike that was stored next to it and it was fine with some new tyres and a clean up and oiling. If anyone takes a look at it and thinks it is a bit worn down and needs a bit of work I will take an offer. It needs to be used poor thing! I was the stoker and am 5'2" and my ex who was up front is about 5'10"I think. He was well into bikes and would have selected good components. We spent ages driving all over the place to look at machines before he chose this one. I am in Addiscombe if you want to have a look sometime.

Keith and I are proud owners of a touring tandem (soon to be upgraded with a longer seatpost at the back).

Good luck, Tamar. Only problem is that you will officially be the stoker  nor will you be able to take as much stuff and give it all to Keith to carry

The biggest problem will be teaching Keith the art of packing light. He likes to be prepared for every eventuality...I can see us having to buy a trailer to pack all is spares into.

Ha ha - that's made me feel better than I have done all week

He could speak to my friend Ian who has packing light down to a fine art - including tools and spares - or you'll be needing one of them lorry signs saying long or heavy load :D

People at work are shocked when I tell them I get all I need for a holiday in two panniers and a rackpack - I showed a photo of my luggage once and someone said, where do you put your washkit

Don't jest - that is pretty much exactly what we'll end up looking like for a weekend jaunt up to see my folks.
