Hi All

Thought this might interest some of you for next years challenge? Its a bit expensive and the bike through the mountains looks gruelling, but a great place to do a tri. I've already entered!

Looks like a great event Simon, and in a nice location 8)
Just seen that the UK 70.3 in June next year is full! I'm thinking about Ironman Wales in september, but not sure if I should wait another year before doing the full distance. Also, it's so expensive!!

Lucy.

Can anyone offer advice on bike choice for this event?

I'd normally (with limited experience) take a TT bike (with 54/39 & 11/21) for a tri, but someone seems to have stuck a mountain in the middle. Should I be on my road bike for this:

How inconsiderate.

I'd stick with a TT bike as you'll be much quicker everywhere else on it. Can't see the climb clearly but looks like a reasonable lump (600m in 15k?), depending on how big it is then you could switch your cassette for a 12-25. 39/25 is a fairly low gear for the climb and you can just go up it on the base bar, unless it has steep sections that go on for a bit, first 5k looks the steepest section. 54/12 will give a decent gear at the other end and the gaps in the gears will only really be at the large sprocket end, and for all bar the climb you'll be on the closer ratios.

Good luck.

i cycled a couple of the hills last week, after gradually climbing up to them for 90 mins. the first bit is good for TT bike, the hills are 7-8% and go on for about 30 mins, i would use a road bike personally, i hired a massi bike from procyclehire.com, and was really impressed with it, and being a compact chainset coped with the hills ok
