Britain’s Ironcouple, Bella Comerford and Stephen Bayliss (Addiscombe CC), who have both been awarded by the British Triathlon Association as the Long Distance Triathletes of the Year for 2006.

The announcement follows an excellent season for both athletes. Comerford (http://www.bellacomerford.com) has recently culminated a string of excellent performances by taking the crown at this weekend’s Ironman Florida race. Her season has also seen her win the Home De Ferro Long Course triathlon in Ibiza and the Lorient Grand Prix in France, as well as fantastic performances at Ironman Brazil and Ironman New Zealand.

Bayliss (http://www.stephenbayliss.net), also won at Home De Ferro, and narrowly missed the podium at Ironman Florida, finishing 4th. This complements his 4th place finishes at Ironman Brazil and Ironman New Zealand.

Both Bayliss and Comerford have enjoyed this season where they spent the majority of the season based at a training camp in Leysin, Switzerland, under the guidance of their coach Brett Sutton.

Well deserved too - a really nice guy.

He was out on the club run over the summer and impressed me with his no bull approach. The only sign of the difference between him and us was how relaxed he looked pulling us along at 45kph whilst we all hung on.
