[quote]On the way back, I read about the Marathon de Sables. £500 to enter, 3 year wait, 151 miles in six days, carrying your own kit and sleeping bag. No supporters in the desert, temp upto 50 degrees. I can tell you now, not one for me. Type of thing Slyvain would be up for though ?
.

One of my workmates did it two years ago (he's thinking of doing the same kind thing but in Alaska next year). Tales of barely-avoided amputated toes due to sand rubbing in shoes were enough to put me off any kind of inclination towards this kind of silliness ...

So this year's Yukon race has been neutralised due to temperatures plummeting to minus 61.

The winner is Andy Heading ... who is the friend of another workmate..

Ninder's gone to the pub and I'm with baby so chance to give you an update. Ran 15 miles with runners world organised ride around Richmond Park on Sunday morning. It was a great event, free, well run. There were five pacing groups, starting from 7 minute miles - I did the slowest group at 11 minute miles. The run was fully paced, with the pacer holding up a bizarre stick saying 11 minute miles on it. He held it up the whole way, so his right bicep was prob 3 inches larger than his right at the end. The whole run was off road, only having to contend with mountain bikers ! I didn't take to anyone, first hour was boring, but started to get into half way through, when I realised I was going to do it. Sprinted (thats what i call it anyway) up the final hill opposite Isabella Plantation car park, and completed in 2.45 spot on 11 minute miles. I think I could keep that up for the marathon.

Did half hour cross training at the gym on Tuesday, including a run programme. Weighed myself, seem to have gone down from 80 kg to 78 kg - finally after 2 months training...

Only 6 weeks to go to marathon now, so entered have entered Kingston Asics morning run on Apri 1st - at 16 miles its the longest run im planning to do - its three weeks before marathon - so ill taper down from then

Had chance to be in Tdf advert today but couldn't go, and can't make it for whole day tomorrow, so hoping to join the morning ride out to London. Have take Look out of basement and put back together.... 8)

Hey AJ,

Think they changed your page

https://www.bhf.org.uk/my_sponsorship_page.aspx?p=52169

All the best for the race and remember to pace yourself you really don't want the old granny, hippo or man in diving suit coming past you in the last mile!

Cheers

G

Hey thanks Gavin, and thanks for your very kind sponsorship, really appreciated :D

I was supposed to do a 16 mile ASIC Kingston breakfast run this Sunday just gone, but didn't get up in time  My alarm clock - baby Priya - just didn't go off at 6am like she normally does ! So I did a run in Dulwich park, but seemed to conk out after 12 miles - so just got to work on the last 14.2 miles then. Hopefully the crowds will give me a lift.

Did a 6.5 mile hilly run with Dulwich Runners yesterday. I'm pleased my weight has gone down from a massive 80 kg in January to a slightly less painful 76 kg. Makes you think how much us cyclists are prepared to save 100gms on a bike...when you can just shift 4000gms off your gut.

I'm planning to run it in 5 hours and I've heard that Runners world have pacers in the pack, so Ill follow one of them. Gavin, hope you're fully mended now, and look forward to seeing you out soon...Or drop by and see the baby. I'm going to be out on CR this sat.

hope to run 4.59 on the day

good luck Ajay !

I'm doing Paul Tunnells stage 1 reccy on Saturday - we might clock up 150 + miles by the time we get home but I would still much prefer that than running 26 miles ...

all the best - you can do it :D

Ajay I had meant to give you a tenner on the clubrun but didn't get round to it, so I will pay it if you survive :-)

Good luck. Most important: don't look tired when (if) they take your picture near the finish. I still have marco's (mine) from Stockholm and he looks like he's walking in a lot of pain while a little old lady is passing him smiling. I will have to scan it for the website marco and you can write a report!

Here's an encouraging thought, Ajay. I did six marathons, 1987 to 1992. Believe it or not, I enjoyed them all (mind you. I used to be partial to 12 hour TTs, so a bit of a nutter).

Make sure you enjoy a day in the son. How else can one get a million+ people cheering you, while touring London at the same time? ENJOY - and go well!
