Back to helping Locky..

Kate and my self swim with South London Tri club, its part of south London harries,

http://www.slhtriclub.org.uk/

They do a awesome swimming session on Mondays (8.15 - 9.15) and Fridays (7.45- 8.45) at Caterham school. It is a brilliant way to start and end the working week and a nice pool too.

Nigel leads the sessions and is very good, (also a Addiscombe member) and with 3 lanes for different abilities you’ll be swimming along nicely in a few weeks.

If your not a member session are £5 and if you are its only £3. they are a FAB club if you were to join, as they do lots of 'brick sessions' - (run - bike - run - bike -run stuff ) on Thursdays I think.

Drop them a mail if you do plan to go swimming just so they know who’s rocking up.

Also you may want to try a few spring Triathlons as they are often in swimming pools are a far nicer way to start then in the docks.

I expect you know all this anyway but just in case, The BTA website list all races. http://www.britishtriathlon.org/

Any other questions let me know

No!!

Thanks for the advice Chloe & others. That sounds good. Also Snoops (wife) suggestion.

I plan in the next couple of weeks to just swim a bit in my local pool a couple of times a week - hopefully I can get a bit better this way then I will try to come along to some of these sessions or use some of the other suggestions made here or to be made here.

I have a rough training regime in my head for the next month or two. What does everyone think of the following:

I currently commute by bike about 12 - 13 miles each day each way. Continue doing this Monday to Thursday
I have recently started lunchtime running at work (just over 3 miles - hopefully to be increased slightly over time). Currently do this about twice a week. Maybe increase the running to 3 times a week over the next couple of weeks (Tue, Wed, Thur)
Club run on Saturday
Finally try to fit in swimming as much as possible. Definately sundays and then atleast once again in the week for the next month or two.

This is pretty much my current training regime but with a couple of swimming sessions added in. Over time I think I will have to cut back on the running / cycling and increase the swimming.

Any thought or suggestions on the plans?

Cheers

Start running straight after a bike ride/commute once or twice a week. Just 5 mins or so to start with, then increase the time and intensity as the year goes on.
This will get you used to dealing with 'jelly legs' after the bike split in your race
Good luck

Hi there

Thames Turbo run a series of nice early season sprint tris - lovely heated open air pool at Hampton for your 425m swim, then a flat 20K or so bike followed by a brisk 5K flat run in the park. And it's easy to get to.

http://www.thamesturbo.com/archives/48

It's well run, good fun and a relatively small field of competitors with beginners and ex pros there alike. Great to use for an early season sharpener. As it's a pool swim there's no mass swim start either. You start in order of your swim time with the fastest starting first so you're surrounded by people of similar ability - you submit a 400m time so they can place you in the right order. Then you can whip past the pesky good swimmers on the bike leg!

I've entered so give me a shout if you need any info.

Enjoy London tri. It's well run and dead flat too - unless you count the underpass and a bridge as a hills....

Cheers
