london triathlon

Postby mlocke » Thu Jan 22, 2009 10:08 pm

I know that paul H is a bit of a triathlete & Mark B (doing ironman this year??) is a memeber of the club so hopefully some helpfull advice can be provided.

I am thinking of entering the london triathlon (sprint distance). Problem is I am a very weak swimmer (quick over a short distance 25metres!! but dead for half an hour after that).

Do those with experience reckon i could train myslf to cope with the swim and everything else afterwards? Also anyone got any good training tips / links?

Thanks in advance?

Good luck Locky. Paul H is having some coaching in the pool from Mrs Snoop. Don't know what he thinks but might be worth having a word on a club run and see what ya think? You have the strength - technique?

I've done the london triathlon a couple of times, i would recommend a swim coach as they can show you stroke techniques that will really improve your speed.

Have a look at http://www.kingfishertriathletes.co.uk/

I used to be a member and they were a friendly bunch

The only advice I would give is to make sure you do some open water swimming before the race as it is way differnet to swimming in a pool. Swimming is all about technique and I would certainly recommend Mrs Snoop as a coach.

Youve got plenty of time so go for it - its far more fun than road racing.

What if Anna K is racing Adam (do a search) :)

I'm gonna try duathlon first and if I win I might go and take on Steve Bayliss

I reckon it's always useful to know how to swim properly, you'd never know when you might need it. Some would say it's like riding a bike, you will never forget. Triathlon will give a good focus to improve your swimming.

Sylv, if she couldn't play tennis, what makes her think she'll be any good as a triathlete!
