You do realise that those armbands may slow you down thus giving the others an advantage!

Good job you're a strong cyclist, you can make up the time there.

Marky Mark, that is a very common problem and there is a good way of sorting it out. Go to a proper running shop and get them to video you on a treadmill, they will then sell you a set of trainers that match your running style and I reckon your problem will go away.

Most common problem is that people pronate, and you inside of your foot is hitting the ground first, with a proper pair of trainers to help correct this it can in my experience make the difference between pain free running and agonising shin splints.

It worked for me.

Cheers

Cheers Marek, I had always thought there was a shin deficiency of technique problem.

It's a weird feeling when I do run (which is never), it feels like the feet weigh so much that the shin does not have enough power to lift the foot to bring it forward ready for the next stride.

It didn't even cross my mind that it could be a shoe issue!

Cheers, Marky Mark

You may also find that as your legs get stronger with cycling, as I believe you had not done much for a while, that this may also help over time. Before you run make sure you have done a bit of a warm up and stretch before and afterwards, this could also help. If you go to the gym and you are running on a treadmill, another good way of getting rid of shin splints or reducing the pain is to run on a gradient of around 1%.

Cheers

Gyms bore me, but (and there is always a but) I'm doing a tour of the West country for 3 days and the first hotel I'm in has a gym so I might as well give it a go, and it's free.

No harm in trying I spose.

Cheers

Back to the original thread, I would be interested. I can swim and stay alive in water (just), but have never been able to get co-ordination right to breathe when doing front crawl, swallow gallons of water and get out again
