Dear Agreeables

Well, what a fantastic holiday. Loved every minute. Favourite climb was probably the JOUX PLANE - best descent - and boy are they thrilling - the Croix de Fry. Hardest - Alpe d'Huez, most picturesque Aravis. Must do it again and soon. :D :D :D :D

Anyway...back to reality...

The proposed rides for SATURDAY 11th JUNE are...

the Regular Club Run to Charlwood...

Return Routes:
Regular (Horley/Lonesome Lane/Earlswood/Redhill)
Boxhill:
Reverse clubrun: ??
Regular then via Rocky Lane, Fanny's Farm, Chipstead, Nonnas:

MTB Ride

Alternative routes/destinations:

PeteS - Ashdown Forest Hartfield :D :D

SUNDAY 12th JUNE

DEL - meet 9.30 @ CSS - probably off to the coast

WEDNESDAY 15th JUNE

Marco - steady ride around the lanes - meet 10.00 @ East Croydon Stn :D

I am picking my new bike up Saturday - fingers crossed, so only time this weekend would be Sunday - What sort of speed would this ride be and roughly how long, assuming we cycle back again?

Anyone doing something a bit shorter, ie 50 miles. I think the speed might be OK.

Sunday ride revised here:

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=12185&p=117024#p117024

Don't know why the captain is bothered about the distance. He's just back from the Alps, so Leith Hill is nothing!!

Good ride out with Mark and Nick's 19s. Very enjoyable, although only a few pulling it along so my plan on having a lazy day following wheels went for a burton :) . No problem with this and I think we may have hada couple of Heather Small's in the group (people who were moving on up).

I did my usual wind up at the end to string it out single file and keep the group safe through the bends before the sprint, which Sam took very comfortably. He was riding really well today and looked strong after his trip to the Alps, said his legs felt good :D . Been ages since I rode or stood next to Sam, blimey shot up tall now.

Things kept rather pleasant on the run back spinning along arriving home with a metronomic 19.1 average.

Great to catch up again with so many.

A very pleasant Quarter Club Run Today with Vc Tim, by special arrangement - ( I'm special and different ) :D, First stop NR, then onto The Reigate Kitchen's, for a big, big Full English Breakfast , - very nice, 5* and pleasant staff also, place to park bikes on opposite side of the road within view, then onto the Heath and around back in reverse to Reigate, on upto the Merstram Drag where Tim did all the drag on the front, all the way, actually all morning, average speed 13ml, back onto NR - good to see all the Boy's and Girl's.

Thank you Tim for your great company, and for re-adjusting my computer, and for the tea, I still owe you, you should not have got it, and look forward to next week's ride - Ex Captain's Social. :D

Great ride today - felt good after my trip to the Alps. Went with the 18s - the usual suspects - small but perfectly formed group: Phil the Pie, Phil, Brian, Claire, Marcus and Ming. Funny but we have loads riding the 19s and loads doing the 17s and below. Perhaps this is the polarisation that Marx talked so much about? :D Anyway, we rode well - nice and tight like Led Zeppelin - a well oiled machine with everyone doing their bit. 8)

Sprint was fun Ming and Claire leading things out but I decided we needed to lift the pace and hit the front, Phil the Pie surged past going for a long one in TT mode, I thought about chasing but fortunately Ming came through and buried himself to close the gap while I sat on, Phil was going like a train and Ming started to fade with still 10 metres to gap, nicely rested I had enough in the tank to get on Phil's wheel (thanks, Ming :D ), with 50 to go I move out and went for the line, it was tight but Phil was spent and I got it by a wheel width   :D 8)

Back via Box after waiting a lifetime for the toileteers - a steady(ish) ride with John Cz and an Agreeable bunch - Karen, Scott, Murray, Martin, Sam, Peter, Tom and 'a Man' (sorry asked your name and then promptly forgot it  ). Tom and Sam had an epic battle on the slopes of the Col de Box (I heard all about it later you understand - I didn't see it - too far back down the hill) which Sam eventually won - Sprint AND KoM - he had a good day.

A really enjoyable ride - thanks to all who made it so.

see you next week

Jon :D :D

Thanks again to Pete S for another great alternative; I never fail to be surprise at how many beautiful places there are around here, and what great routes there are to get there. Your knowledge of Ordnance Survey maps is trully impressive Pete; I rarely know where I am ... and I love it. Thanks also to Peter M for arm-twisting the Disagreeables into a pub stop in Chiddingstone. See you all soon.
