Sunday 12th Sept. - Very hilly ride

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Sunday 12th Sept. - Very hilly ride

Postby Andrew G » Tue Sep 07, 2010 7:43 pm

An “Oh my word what have you done to my legs” presentation.

I can’t make the CR as I’m on taxi duty so will be going out on Sunday should people wish to join me…be warned this ride will contain a lot of wheezing, grunting, sweating, and swearing.

When: Sunday 12th September.
Meeting: Lloyd Park car park.
What time: 9am meet with prompt departure.
What sort of ride: Super hilly leg breaker  .
How far: 80kms but that’s only half the story...
How hilly: There’s 1,100m of climbing :!:
Café stop: No, so make sure you have enough supplies with you.

I can’t claim full credit for the route, a linking section and couple of super lanes were shown to me a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve tweaked a bit and added a bit on.

As you can tell from the details above and the gradient profile below this is not an easy ride.

We won’t be racing around but will not be pootling around either, a decent steady pace.

Distance, pace, no café stop, and most importantly the volume and toughness of the climbing, means that this is only really suitable for those who do the CR in the 19s.

Regroup at the top of climbs but no waiting otherwise. If you are suffering then you won’t be far from Croydon and I can point you home (a flatter way) from any point on the route.

Ta,

Andrew.

I'd love to, but I'm going with my son to somewhere with 45 degree slopes and no brakes. Pretty rubbish scenery though.

Kieran, Lloyd Park is on Coombe Road (A212) about 1 mile out of central Croydon heading south east.

Different route Sylv, and saves my Franglais  (gram-pur?).

A tease Jon, me? I just like to hear the range of vocabulary as we hit each hill, it also means you can't clear off and leave me sweating up an incline.

Bounce.

Lloyd Park is here.

Not a race but a very hard ride at a reasonable even pace throughout, only stopping is briefly to regroup at the top of the hills.

Say 12.30 to 1 back in Croydon. 15-16mph would be a good average speed for this route.

Well maybe by spring next year, I might have made it to the 19s. Did the 18s today and hung on pretty well except a bit off the pace up a couple of the hills. Think I'm getting my muscles back as I seem to weigh more than a few months ago yet don't seem to have the panniers on my hips...

I'll hold you to that :) . Many, many rides and many, many miles for me to be done through winter and first half of next year so plenty of opportunity.
