CR Thread

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

faster 18s...

We headed out and enjoyed the tailwind to Montys cafe, which was when i realised only 7+Me fancied the badged faster 18's???

anyway a top group, was great seeing Murray back out and riding strong, Andy's Alps trip saw him fly up Rusper,

Great weather, helpful tailwind, plenty of steady rotating and all putting in the effort on the front saw a comfortable 19.1 avg

thanks all makes VCing a pleasure.

Well my post-surgery activity has been restricted to levering myself out of bed, going downstairs to lie on the sofa and switching between the cycling and the cricket. Saying that, I seem to be healing quite quickly - although I reckon Brighton next weekend is not a good idea.

To add insult to injury, Tom took himself out this morning and beat my Strava time up Box.

Well, there's a ringing endorsement for you - not sure mine had quite that effect for me. Must be doing it wrong or something

VAR - when putting tyre back on the trick is to grip the thing tightly to stop the side hooked over the rim bowing outwards.

Managed to get out today to spin the legs over with the 18s. Bumped in to Jon A for the first time in ages at CSS and he was convinced to join the 18s despite a lack of riding. We had a good old natter and turned off from the good group riding sensibly at Partridge to ride on and straight back without stopping. Hadn't realised the Pine had closed down, that must have caused some concern for people having to ride on some different roads and go somewhere else on a Saturday  .

A very enjoyable morning catching up with Jon after so long, and saw the old man on the A23 heading the opposite way for a coffee and chat at Nonna's.

So how does the CR roll these days?, now that it's legendary cafe is, no more. :( Where do people go now for their Cafe? down in deepest darkest, Damp / flooded Surrey :?:

Tan house farm has coped well with better coffee and food. Out normal route to charlwood and back as if to box hill ads 5 to outward journey then option box or Reigate. There are variations of this depending on group.

Something different. With a borrowed tandem, thanks mate :) , I took my Dad out for a spin. We had a test ride last week up to the Beaver World cafe at Tatsfield which was good fun. The only problem was having to do the odd bit of control as my Dad was trying to steer from the back (back seat drivers eh   ) but good fun.

This week we went for a bit longer spin out to Cake cafe at Downe. A bit hillier but with the little granny ring / touring gears the climb up from Coney Hall was fine and the one up to Downe fairly easy. It's a big heavy machine and tandems loose all momentum as soon as you arrive at a 0.5% gradient, everything you can try and carry in to it, bang, it's gone in a second, so hills have to be planned for but with the gears available nothing was a problem.

After a delicious piece of coffee and walnut cake we came back through Biggin Hill with a lovely tailwind behind us before dropping back to Coney Hall and then home.

A different couple of Saturday's but really enjoyable ones. My Dad loved it :D .

A different cake stop for some of us this Saturday. Fabulous cakes sat on the harbour wall in St Tropez, next to the multi-million $ yachts.

8-)

Get stuffed

Well, I had a very enjoyable ride in Surrey, despite the attempts of one driver to get me off the road just after I'd left home. (There was only me on the road at one point with a car waiting to turn right from a side turning - thought he was going to wait for me to pass but then he started pulling out and turning and kept on coming until the side of the car was inches from me - I screamed 'f-----g a------e' whereupon he seemed to realise I was there. Not sure if the wave was an apology but I was not impressed.) Anyway, riding better, climbing better - took it easy out and then a bit faster after tea. Had to sprint to catch up with the Box Hill group as I was the last out the loo...

Can't quite work out your 'f-----g a------e' , Amy. Must be '"flaming anti-bike" ......
