CR Thread

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Back on the CR after the race season, nice ride out to the cafe with the 20s, and a good ride back with a different route to the estate from Lucy. A good route, much more scenic. Was great to ride back with Alex, my nursemaid from my first club run all those years ago :) .

Nice to see you Mr

Nice gentle spin down with the 20's for me as well with my head full of snot so sat in a lot more than usual. T&O was good, only time I gave any effort was leading out Tony C and The Shadow for the sprint :D

A cold day at the start but nice once the warmth of the sun hit you.

And what a lead out it was...I struggled immensely to get past you as I spun out my 50x12...( must buy a 53 ring for next time!!) :D

Good job I didn't go full gas then

My highest gear is a 50x11, thought about going to a 53 but I like a close ratio block at the back and I'm more a spinner than a grinder. Very rare I spin out, can happily spin at 40+mph, the 11 makes all the difference though :D

Good to see the return of the CR thread.

OK, so it occassionally got a little samey in the past; Adam trouncing the sprint, Stu reporting ridiculously high TG speeds with his hopelessly optimistic speedo, and Marek's never ending list of sandbagging excuses.

Well, times have changed; Adam's moved on and up, Stu's taken up rowing and Marek... well let's just say Marek is still the master of his trade ;-)

A fun TG for me this week. Turned out to be a wise (soft) decision to ride the CR yesterday rather than race today. Good to see Sylv back in form after a disrupted year. Maybe a few more races yet for me this season before back to the Club Run for the winter.

Yes I thought the Tg had a distinct old school feel to it, nice. Maybe it was the rare sight of Marek (we didn't see him for long though!) and his usual list of excuses. Missing the Hone though! A fast paced run to the cafe with Keith going like a train and special K putting in unsustainable bursts of speed, and with none of the namsy-pamsy pre-sprint faffing, it was full bore all the way. And despite the headwind I couldn't come past Keith.
Just three of us opted for Box Hill return, then we caught another group and rode with them for a while, before carrying on.

Yes I missed the CR threads Keith, I don't use facestalk so have no idea what goes on there.

A very wise decision, it was very grim at Lamberhurst, chucking it down and very windy. The Ridler won solo with a strong performance, he likes our promotions :) . I spent my time between laps hiding in the car with Paul's son.

Ok, so I wasn't on the best of form, there were a number of reasons. Firstly, a heavy night out on Thursday now leads to a two day hangover, I think I am getting old. Secondly, as I arrived at CSS (after my 20 mile warm up from East Grinstead) you lot had just started going so I had to chase for the first 500 yards or so with no break. Thirdly you lot seemed to be riding like you butts were on fire, I think you must have dropped about a 1/3rd of the group by the time we got to Leigh. I got caught at traffic lights before Reigate with a couple of others and we had to chase a bit to get back on to you guys again, not ideal.

My recent riding has involved long 100 mile consecutive days riding over big mountain passes at about 10mph. I don't think we went below 25mph in the first half an hour which will explain the look of pain and grimace if anyone looked behind them and saw my facial expressions.

Anyhow, enjoyed it in a 'this has to be doing me some good' kind of way. Stopped in Rusper as was meant to be meeting up with a mate. Unfortunately he wasn't their so I pootled back to Charlwood where he eventually met up with me. We then rode over to Box Hill via the lanes and then back via Norwood Hill and almost back to Charlwood again and then headed back to EG. 125km on the clock, some of them pretty quick.

Cheers

Marek.....

If the weather is ok this Sat I won't stop at the café and directly ride the 12 miles to the Kingston Wheelers hill climb on Leith Hill (South side), between 11.20 and 12.30. Should be good viewing with the current Box Hill record holder (19.5mph!!) riding, plus some other fast names. Return via Box Hill to set your own PB.

Not sure what happened in the first 5 miles of start of TG today - I was hiding right at the back today and it seems some got annoyed by dangerous riding standard and turned back? I did witness the very faint call for slowing traffic just before the Full Monty café lights though, and a few of us almost rode into each other. Dan must have been at the back too cos no one shouts louder than him for obstacles! It's usually very safe in there though, so maybe just a couple glitches.

Anyway went straight from Charlwood to the hill climb at Leith today- freezing my bum standing in the shade for an hour but was worth it, if only just to see Tejvan Pettinger flying past, winning by over 10sec and smashing the course record.

He's planning to climb 20,000m in a day!

I was at the front, saw the traffic, shouted and slowed the pace down. The gap between the pavement and the car ahead of me looked sufficient enough for me to pass through, and so I did. I don't know what happened behind me? I probably should have signaled as well. But I don't think it deserved having people leave?

Set off early this morning, meeting PVT as Rusper before heading down to Steyning to watch the first of the Brighton Mitre HCs. Nice morning and a very enjoyable ride.
Watched Pete Tadros beat Chris McNamara by 2 seconds, grabbed a cuppa at the HQ and headed home.
A lovely day revisiting bits of the 24hr night circuit (didn't recognise them in daylight :) ) and home with a good tempo 97 miles on the clock.
A more gentle leg spin to watch the Catford HC tomorrow.
