Brighton here we come! The first of this year's Cyclotastic Captain's Coastals is coming up - Saturday 17th May 2014. Normal CR to Tan House abandoned for the day.

Wear ACC kit, bring money, camera, spare inner tubes, snacks etc.

Lunch at the Regency as usual!Free cake at Nonna's! :D :D

Don't forget if you can't join us for the trip to Brighton you can always come along as far as Turners Hill and make your own way home. It's about the same distance as the normal CR. And of course, there is no compulsion to do the there and back - many ride to Brighton but take the train back.

Anyway, whatever you decide...

Be there or be square and happy cycling.

The Captain 8)

Meet CSS - leaving times as follows:

15 mph 8.15
16 mph 8.30
17 mph 8.45
18 mph 9.00
19 mph 9.15
20 mph 9.30

Hi
Jon, what's the approximate route and distance?
By the way, we the newbies can't wear the ACC kit yet, as it is out of stock until the end of the month
See you on Saturday, I hope. 17's if we finally do it. :)

South through Turners Hill and up the Ditchling Beacon! We take various routes there and back so maybe 90 miles CSS to CSS. :D

Just want to be clear about speeds. It is the speed you would do the normal CR. We won't average 17 Brighton and back.

Thanks Matt. I hope that 37.5% in Ditchling Beacon is just a gps error

See you tomorrow!

Well, what a wonderful day out!
Thanks to all who helped us and made the pain slighly more tolerable, specially to Jon C. Hopefully next time I won't be dragging the group too much.
And I actually enjoyed a lot going up Ditchling Beacon!

That was a better day than I expected - there are better routes down to Brighton, though Slugwash Lane did much to soothe my slightly tattered sensibilities from too much main and busy roads. I have explained a better route to Jon Cz.

Rode up Ditchling much better than I thought I would - managed to haul myself past several cars stuck behind slower riders (including one idiot who overtook me just to add to the line of two others I'd been approaching). Then there was the Challoner school bus challenge, stopping to pick up some lads who'd cramped - thankfully nothing coming down the other way. Had started behind the main group of 15s and 16s having stopped to use the facilities in the village but I managed to overtake a few going up :D Hit 41 miles down into Mouselcombe :D

Jorge, we'll have to introduce you to some of the hills in Surrey - some have two arrows on (Ditchling only has one).

Started off with a large group as a lot didn't seem to know the route but a few of us waited for those slower on the climb out of Hove. Hope you got back ok, Justin. A small group formed led by Phil H as we climbed up Devil's Dyke the front way because Phil wanted another chance to break 40 - I decided to follow him and enjoy a lovely bit of downhill. I did not 'brick it', thanks Freddy, but must have clocked 43mph as that was my new max after that 8)

Though I was tired and ached I seemed to get stronger on the way back  Lost a couple more on the way back as Ollie decided to catch the train back from Faygate (NOT Claygate!!) and Freddy stopped for sustenance in Reigate but we got back to Nonna's for a very good bit of cake just after 5pm. Think I need to check my speedo though as it said I'd done 120 miles... The timings seemed right but I'm sure I don't normally break the 100 mark on Brighton rides following the usual route or slight variations of :?

Knackered but felt much happier at the end of the day.
