Sunday Club Run Calendar from 31 August

Postby Del » Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:57 pm

Sunday Club Runs started again on 24 August.

The calendar for the Sunday Club Run is below. It runs on a 2 month basis to provide a varied set of rides to destinations in Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

Odd Months (Jan. Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov)
1st Sunday - Abinger Tearoom via Box/Ranmore
2nd Sunday - High Beeches Garden (near Handcross) via Rusper or Turners Hill
3rd Sunday - Four Elms (Chartwell Barns) via Pilgrims Way & Ide or Toys Hill
4th Sunday - Tanhouse Farm via Box and Leith
5th Sunday - Tulleys Farm (near Turners Hill) via Bletchingley, Lingfield, East Grinstead)

Even Months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec)
1st Sunday - Ide Hill Community Shop via Edenbridge
2nd Sunday - Henfold Lakes via Box and Leith or Ranmore
3rd Sunday - Borde Hill via Rusper and Staplefield
4th Sunday - Four Elms via Tilburstow Hill and Hever
5th Sunday - Redhill Aerodrome via Box Hill and Newdigate or Woldingham and Godstone

Meet up is 10:00 at Nonna Rossa's cafe in Coulsdon. Average speed equivalent to a strong 17 or 18 mph ride on Saturday.

Each destination is a cafe. Aim is to reach the cafe after around 25 miles. Over time we will build up a few ways of reaching each destination for variety. We'll also review the destinations from time to time.

I'm also talking with Phil Hawkes to agree a way of making routes available to download to GPS.

ALTERNATIVE FALLING LEAVES RIDE

I am suggesting a different ride for 5/10, first Sunday in October. Some people have failed to get into the ride of the falling leaves so I am suggesting an ACC and friends ride based on Andrew's 2011 Sportive course.

I don't think Del is out that day so this would serve as the Sunday ride but people could cut short earlier if they prefer and maybe just do the usual 50 miles

I am suggesting 2 groups, so 16/17ish mph and 17/18ish mph the first group leaving CSS at 9am and the second at 9.15.

Halfway point is Sumner Ponds at Barns Green.

The ride is more challenging than most Sundays, 83 miles and 6,700 feet but quite negotiable roads.

There is a GPX file on Strava - look for the Addiscombe club's STRAVA group and under recent activities you should see Falling Leaves posted on 19th September and you should be able to export it and load it to your device - alternatively message me with your email address and I'll send you the file.

The ride is free to all and hopefully will be fun - If the weather is dodgy we can postpone it to another day

Let me know if you are thinking coming

regards

Alan

I am around on October 5!

Even better, I'll join you on this!!

We agreed to make this the Sunday CR on that day. It's a great idea and as you say, we can agree a turn-back point for anyone who can't or doesn't want to do the full distance.

Jolly good - I'll rock up at 9 and make sure it is a viable early group and they have a compass. I may leave with them or wait to 9.15 depending on who turns up and how they are feeling.

Have a look at this file and see if you can download it for your garmin https://www.dropbox.com/s/swpfa9loer6xf8b/ACC%20Falling%20leaves.gpx?dl=0

I like that route.

That's pretty hilly, especially via White Down on the way back!

Nasty!

It saps your legs more through accumulative build up rather than just bashing up any big hill in the area.

I wanted a nice ride to be able to enjoy the scenery in the area as well rather than just gazing at your front wheel or the bit of tarmac immediately in front of it.

Can the club run on 12 Oct involve a detour to watch the Bec hill climb on the way back? Might need to be a bit of a route change though...

I don't think it would be much longer. It doesn't start till 10am, and always has a cafe stop so that's 3.5 hours of riding time before 2pm. Obviously people will be out longer if they stop to watch the hill climb but not actually riding longer. Pleeeaaase Del, please ;)

Could make a day of it an take in the Catford in the morning (on Yorks). Tom is riding both so probably will want a lift out there. Parking for the Bec could be an issue. Parking for the Catford is always an issue.

It has been done before - ride out for the Catford, get lunch in Westerham (or somewhere) then take in the Bec. I would do it if I wasn't support crew.
