SUNDAY CR 20th Sept 17/18 mph pace - heading west

On road, off road, round in a big circle or down to the coast, we do the lot. We don't just do it at all speeds and for all levels, we do it Agreeably as well!

Re: SUNDAY CR 20th Sept 17/18 mph pace - aftermath

Just reporting on my accident on this ride - also to boost up the number of my postings :-)

I was chatting and looked up pointing at something. With only one hand on the handle bar, bike hit a drain hole and next thing I was on the road doing a double tumble. And poor Simon who was on my wheel also suffered an unavoidable fall as a consequence. Sorry Simon - I hope you are ok...and thanks for helping me straighten the crooked gear shifter after that.

Funny when the mishap happened, I could see myself rolling on the road but no thought (like do this or try that to lessen the impact) ran through my mind.

Back home (after deciding not to do Boxhill and push my luck), long shower and inventory of damage -
grazed left knee and left elbow.
grazed right shoulder blade and inner right thigh (no idea how that could happen!)
A small graze on my right cheekbone (no idea how that happened either)
Swollen left malleolus (bony protuberance on the side of the ankle). I must have taken a fair knock there. I am hobbling now but should be OK after 24 hours, I'd say
tenderness on right side of my back where I had my house keys in the back pocket (I probably landed on the keys ...which damaged my brand new addiscombe jersey.Damn! One of keys put a hole through the fabric. On second thought, I should be grateful that key did not go the other way!!)

Apart from that, enjoyable sunday ride. Apologies for slowing the group on the ascents (but nothing new there for me).

Lesson for me - keep eyes on the road and hands on the handle bar!!!
But like the terminator, I'll be back

In the words of the late Jim Morrisson: "Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel. Goin' to the Tanhouse gonna have a real, Good time."

Glad not too much damage done. Blame the people on the front for not pointing out the hole.

Blimey - that's quite a catalogue of scrapes and bruises, George! You're a hard man! You forget to mention that you nearly crashed again 10 min later when you ran into the back of me. Hopefully, that's got all of them out of the way for the next year or two! :D

Yeah, my mind was still on my 'lucky' escape when I nearly ran into you a bit later :-(
In fact I was thinking of Kris Boeckmans and how serious such accidents could be. - only one hand on the handle bar and presumably eyes off the road momentarily

Funny how one can ride for years trouble free and then within the space of a month I came off twice and a near miss with you. As the saying goes - trouble comes in two's or three's. Definitely I hope mines are out of the way now!
