You'll only be able to say that until 2020.
"The money brought in from road tax in England will be spent on England’s roads from 2020."http://highwaysmagazine.co.uk/chancello ... oads-fund/Osborne is gone. Whether the new chancellor will take up Osborne's idea is not known. However someone posted these relevant comments. I like the funny rejoinder best!
MonchberterIt's an unpleasant gift from Osborne to cyclists for sure but this so called revival of 'road tax' will remain irrelevant for cyclists.
a) the funding from VED is only intended to cover the 'strategic road network', i.e. 'A' roads, dual carriageways and motorways - the kinds of roads most cyclists would choose to avoid, or are unable to use (motorways) anyway. Local roads remain paid for from income tax and council tax, which everyone pays.
b) regardless of whether the fund did cover all roads, it is intended to be spent on new roads, so riding on existing 'A' roads, any "road tax" comments thrown a cyclist's way will be misinformed.
c) if spent on damaged roads again 'road tax' is irrelevant to cyclists who cause next to no damage to the actual surface.
Still, I still fear "you don't pay road tax" being brandished as a weapon by anyone irate at cyclists.
DoctorFloyd -> MonchberterIf they do brandish it, I'll just be telling them to kindly f**k off. Same as now!
