Beastway mtb team race 27 July

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Beastway mtb team race 27 July

Postby Sylv » Mon Jul 04, 2011 4:03 pm

This is the last round of the Beastway series at Hog Hill.

Does anyone fancy doing the team race – teams of 4 with the first 3 counting.

We have regulars or people who have raced there before – myself, Peter, Serge. How about a few more? I’m thinking Matt, Aodan, or anyone else who wants to join - I even heard Paul H fancied a mtb!!!

It's a lovely venue on a nice summer day

Excellent idea, I'd be up to form a team for the final Beastway. Providing we don't have to do it naked or in fancy dress (I've seen sights in previous years no man should see).

Thanks

Carl, I'm sure you're good enough to be in the A-team. Matt is up for it too, so with Peter who is doing well in the Masters, we should have a nice strong team.

Is there still interest in the team race on Wednesday? I'm available if others are.

Thanks

he he - I did this a few years back with Serge and a couple of others. I blew up after about 3/4 of a lap but as Sylv says, you need a team of four and the top three count. I think we won!  I got a drinks bottle as a prize

Honourable third place for Addiscombe at last night's Beastway Team event. Mixed was the classification with the greatest competition as the natural home for most team compositions, and individually the Arctic-Aircon RT boys who were second were storming their classes through the series. I have no idea what theme rang through the winning team of Thomas the Tank Intl, other than Rob Purcell who was very strong in Masters this year was in it, plus first rider over the line last night Hugo Humphreys.

Top marks to Slyv for racing in an alternative outfit of denim shorts and t-shirt, and to Carl and Richard for all their efforts last night. It was an enjoyable course and a lovely evening to conclude Beastway for 2011.

Results are here - http://www.londoncyclesport.com/index.p ... &Itemid=90

and key pictures here:

Carl (rider 1) - http://www.londoncyclesport.com/index.p ... &Itemid=79
Slyv (rider 3, plus 3 minutes on rider 1) - http://www.londoncyclesport.com/index.p ... &Itemid=79
Me (rider 4, plus 4 minutes on rider 1) - http://www.londoncyclesport.com/index.p ... &Itemid=79

Apologies to Richard who I can't find a shot of as I've forgotten which kit he was wearing.

Thanks

Peter

Peter see other posts in "results" section

On the minus side – we first thought we were 1st, then 2nd, and now 3rd (there was a timing chip glitch) :(

On the plus side – it sounds like I had the fastest time (+2 min on first wave not 3) – gps riding time of 46’54 :D

Yes, just read the other post. I was clueless to the prize giving drama. Lord knows how they picked the bones out of that timing chip mess, and I'm surprised it had problems as I would hope the system was reliable on the whole. Hope Addiscombe don't get implicated in any Met Police style conspiracy given the club helped pay for it, and then the club wins the team race, or not....

You were going like a train last night, and congratulations for the fastest lap time. Never easy round Beastway with the traffic, particularly on a shorter course. If you did a few more rounds in 2012 I am sure you'd be in contention for the Expert class series victory. £30 Brixton Cycles voucher, a trophy and a water bottle could be yours.

The problems with the timing system were a couple of riders turning up for the team race and not registering properly, and a duff chip (on normal nights we would have picked this up on the first lap and made allowances for it on calculating the results using the paper-based backup system to insert the riders laps between the riders finishing each lap around them).

Addiscombe will not be implicated in the investigations  :D

Sylv's video is, I think, from the last series at Eastway before we were evicted to allow the site to be used for Lord Coe's sports fortnight for drug abusers.

Advanced notice - next year's series will start a week earlier to allow us to finish a week earlier in order to (guess what) make room at the facility for the olympics.
