Pardon my ignorance, but is the championship a one off race or the aggregate of results across a number of CX races?

Thanks

I think there are two trophies, this one for a one-off race, and another one for the overall season.

There is a league trophy for the highest placed Addiscombe rider in the London X League. This trophy is for the highest placed Addiscombe rider in a particular round of the series nominated as our championship for that year.

Ths Championship is a one off race. There is also a cup for the ACC rider with most points in the London Cyclo Cross League over the 2012-2013 Season.

I might be keen on going to this race with my MTB. Will take the Mrs/daughter too :!: :D

Looking at the site, here:

http://www.londonxleague.co.uk/round-04/

I assume I start at 13.45 with the - Sen.,Vet.,Women 1345 £ 12.00 - Cat C (or do I go with the Novice at 12.45?)

Does anyone know roughly how long the race lasts? and also what time should I get there to sign on etc?

(Pardon the ignorance, this will be my first cycle cross race!)

Thanks

John

Race the seniors John. Best to get there about an hour before, then you can sign in and get your bike ready. You get a chance to do a lap or two to sight the course as a warm up after the kids race. Just make sure you get back to the start in time, many a time seen folk panicking to get back in time.

Cross races last an hour, but you finish when the winner does, I.e. When they cross the line everyone after gets the chequered flag, like in an F1 race regardless of how many laps a rider may be behind. Top riders are seeded and are brought to the front, everyone else starts lined up behind them so to get a good spot don't be shabby getting to the line.

Cross races start full tilt hammering it from the word go, it settles down as it gets stretched out and fatigue sets in, but be prepared to go in to the red straight away, don't worry it will settle down after about 10 minutes.

Thanks for confirmation and all the tips Andy!

Looking forward to it, should be fun and totally different to road racing/crits .... especially considering I have never raced on my MTB :!: just social rides down Box/Leith Hill :!: :)

Well that was an experience :!:

Started the race towards the back of the mass start but not that it would have made much difference, with the MTB you loose so much time on the flats by virtue of the CX being faster! In addition, I only found out I had maybe 10% braking power on the back! This didn't help on the technical bits....

Back brakes once I removed them at home: (as you can see, not much left! I annihilated them two months ago on a rainy MTB ride in Box/Leith Hill and forgot about it! even the metal arms broke on the brake holders)

Which caused this:

and resulted in this:

Sylv killed it though, came 4th I believe! Well done Sylv! :D
