[quote="Andrew G"]Race the seniors John. Best to get there about an hour before, then you can sign in and get your bike ready. You get a chance to do a lap or two to sight the course as a warm up after the kids race. Just make sure you get back to the start in time, many a time seen folk panicking to get back in time.
Cross races last an hour, but you finish when the winner does, I.e. When they cross the line everyone after gets the chequered flag, like in an F1 race regardless of how many laps a rider may be behind. Top riders are seeded and are brought to the front, everyone else starts lined up behind them so to get a good spot don't be shabby getting to the line.
Cross races start full tilt hammering it from the word go, it settles down as it gets stretched out and fatigue sets in, but be prepared to go in to the red straight away, don't worry it will settle down after about 10 minutes.
Thanks for confirmation and all the tips Andy!
Looking forward to it, should be fun and totally different to road racing/crits .... especially considering I have never raced on my MTB
just social rides down Box/Leith Hill
