Waller Pain anyone?

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Waller Pain anyone?

Postby Matt W » Mon May 06, 2013 2:47 pm

On June 9th there will be an event that has been held for a few years in Caterham, appropriately called "Waller Pain". The name comes from the location - Waller Lane in Caterham, which starts down near Caterham Station, and ends up near Caterham Dene Hospital (appropriate ?)

It is basically a short hill climb over approx 0.3 miles with an ascent of approx 210 feet.
It is run by the Caterham Rotary Club, and this year the aim is to raise funds toward the Save The Velodrome (Herne Hill) appeal.

Full details can be found here: http://www.caterhamtable.com/index.php? ... &Itemid=69

It would be great to see some Addiscombe peeps out attempting the climb with me. There are various age categories.

Hope to see you there, and to see ACC regaining that record! :D

Me and Tom have done this the last couple of years and it's a bit of a giggle. Might well give it a go again.

I could be tempted - it would be good to get a good group there.

So who's definitely coming along?

I've managed to knock about 10 seconds off of my time with another session up there on Wednesday. I want to aim to beat the U16 record 1-39! :D

:D

Couldn't believe it when I saw him going up!!

A good morning out. Rode out with Joe and warmed up. Although there was no point in warming up because in the wait to climb, we got freezing!!
I beat my PB by 20 seconds! I got my goal of beating the youth record (by one second!) and got 3rd overall (I keep getting 3rd! :x )

Great ride Matt. Puts you 7th in senior men. I've not been below 2 minutes up there.

Tom is making noises about doing the Catford hillclimb (Sunday October 13th - the oldest bike race in the world). I have ridden up Yorks once and that'll do me. You might want to enter though. And then there's the Bec HC on White Lane in the afternoon.

Well done Matt, and a great picture of Hal. Top work fella :) .

Re the Catford and Bec hill climbs. Both brilliant events with superb crowds and a wonderful (albeit painful) experience. I don't like the Catford as the hill is less constant, it has two ramps. I prefer the Bec and have friends in that club so do that event most years. I'm rubbish and always one of the slowest but it's great fun.

Congratulations Mat. You've been cycling a very short time and have come a long way. Once you start winning, which will be very soon, there'll be no stopping you :D

Congratulations also to Belinda with a time of 1-52 which broke the female record.
Maybe next time you'll wear club kit.
You must now enter Bec / Catford.

Actually I have posted already on the results page but I will add one here too as i feel a real fraud . Although I won the "fit mum category" it wasn't until I looked at the results for this year and 2012 and realized that something was wrong . I know that I couldn't have been the fastest female as I was almost lapped up the hill ! I asked the organizer to check the times and sure enough my time was 2.52 . Bridget has already sent me the link to cycling weekly.. with the wrong time ! I will have to think up excuses for next years loss of form already!
