Well, neither Paul Haywood of the Epsom CC nor myself got the memo... and having just battled the wind to get down there on time I wasn't about to turn round and go home. So I chucked my bag in his car, and we raced anyway!
I can confirm it was flipping windy, but nothing unmanagable and I rode 99% on the tri bars. Paul had a deeper front and a disc on so strugglesd a bit more, but both of us made it round safely. The roads were dry, no standing water and no debris. Just windy is all.
Out was slow, back was a bit better with a bit of a tail wind into the Beare Green roundabout and generally more sheltered being as the wind was from your left on the return.
Needless to say the times were not as exciting as a fortnight ago.
Paul put in a solid 22:55 and I clocked 22:11 according to good old Strava. So 49 seconds slower than two weeks ago, despite a couple of extra watts laid down.
Shame to cancel it, but it was pretty breezy, but a good test all the same. Plus I saved three quid, so can now afford an extra half a pint after Saturday's Nocturne. Give us a shout if any of you are coming up, I'm doing the Leigh Day Crit at 17.55 (2/3/4s) so's I can change, leave my bike in my office, and come and have a few pints while the Elite boys race!
Cheers,
Adam
