12 hourers and SCCU 1Toners!!!

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

12 hourers and SCCU 1Toners!!!

Postby Robert » Tue Jul 08, 2003 9:25 am

 Calling all the above. The season of 12hrs and tons is on us. Who is doing the SCCU 100TT? Who is doing a 12hr and which one? I ask as we need to start seeking helpers who are prepared to help us survive these events. If you know of anyone who is going to be doing any of the above, but is unlikely to look on the forum can you pass this on to them. Either let me know direct or just declare your intentions in response to this.
Thanks
Robert

I've already entered the SCCU 100. In the Kent CA 100 the other weekend I just used a camelback and one water bottle and found that was enough, although I could have taken a bottle from the neutral helpers if I'd run out. I'm going to try the same at the national 100 this weekend.

I can't make the Sussex CA 12 on 10th August as I'm away that weekend, so the most likely looking 12 for me is the ECCA on 17th August. Isn't that the one you all rode last year? I guess Colin might be planning on riding it as it's in his neck of the woods.

 Jon, its looking like it is only you and I on the 12hr / 1ton trail as nobody else has responded! I find that hard to believe after the success of the last two years taking the team prize in the 12hr events.

I've entered the 100, but bit scared about 12hr. Sounds like it might hurt a lot. 12hrs is insanely long time to be riding.

Grateful for any hot tips/support during 100. Kind of entered on a whim during post-Vaujany euphoria. Am I going to regret this?

 100, to someone as fit as you, should be a walk in the park, just remember to eat and drink regularly during the ride. Persuade your man to come along and hand you a bottle or three. I think we are now up to four in the SCCU 100 so far. Good luck

Anyone got start sheet yet for 100? I'm beginning to think they didn't get my application. Feels like ages since I sent it off.

Tamar, I haven't got the official one through the post, but Chris Watts gave me an advance copy at the social bash on Saturday. And yes, you're in.

Tridevil, it's this Sunday (27th). As it's a CTT event the closing date was 10ish days before the event, so it's too late to enter now. But you can always come down and cheer us all on. You still have time to enter a 12hour though

That's a shame. I am doing a 30 mile running race this sunday. I would have liked to have to have done it. I haven't done any cycling since May so a twelve would be a bit too much, never mind. Where is the twelve anyway?

 There are a number of 12hr races held mainly throughout August. Our local one is the Sussex CA 12hr on Sunday 10 August, which I have entered. So if you are not up for riding it, just come down and support. Or just try it on for size and see how you get on, the organisation behind the support is excellent, keeping the riders fed and watered, while they concentrate on riding the bike. I saw one 2 years ago when the Addiscombe took the team prize, which gave me the incentive to do one last year. In fact five of us entered the National 12hr Championship near Cambridge, and again we took a team prize.

HUGE thanks to everyone who came and supported the 100 yesterday. There were times when it was v tempting just to stop, and then I'd see a blur of yellow lycra leaping around at the side of the road, shouting encouragement, and I just had to put a bit of a spurt on. Was lovely suprprise to see huge crowd at Cowfold. Big thanks especially to Joyce and Linda, running up and down handing out food & drink. Absolutely could not have done it without your support. Thanks to everyone else not mentioned by name but nonetheless who provided vital support to keep the pedals turning.

ps - you guys doing the 12 are insane!

 What a blow, just been notified that the Sussex Ca has been cancelled due to lack of numbers - only 11 - they needed 25. Now I have to reset my schedule, ECCA 12hr here I come. Jon that means I`ll be now doing the same event as you. It would be good if we could get a third rider, possibly put the club in with a chance of a team prize three years in a row. Any likely candidates need to get their applications in by Tuesday 5th August at the latest, or if you fancy coming up to give us a shout or to feed let Jon or I know.
