I'm a new boy (age 36 and a half) and confused by all this jargon. I have been out on a number of sat morning rides (17&18's) with you guys, I have joined and I now have a race licence. I'm feeling fit after just completing Biarritz to Barcelona via the Pyrenees with another member Stephen Fortune (Black Trek 5.1, boyish looks and skinny legs) and I want to have a go. What, where, how do I begin. Got to fit it around a young family and keep the peace with her in doors....Any Suggestions????

It's not a bad idea to have a goosey first so you can get a flavour of what's going on, speed, how it pans out etc. Then you can make your mind up where you want to race. Hillingdon is a bit of a trip (for most anyway) but is an easier starting place as it's a 4th cat only race and a flatter circuit. Palace is a 3/4 race and a tougher race, plenty get dropped though (including me 
) so if you do you won't be alone. You'll last longer at Palace if you are happy riding in close quarters with others and cornering as it is quite a narrow circuit and has a number of corners where you can lose or gain places/speed.
