Rear hub lubrication

Postby Dombo » Sun Jun 02, 2013 10:47 am

Decided to take the hub apart on my Easton wheel and give everything a good clean prior to the Dragon Ride next week. Anyway, I was wondering how best to lube the thing? I took out the bit with the sprung pawls, thought it might be a good idea to fill the hub with oil and reassemble so I did that but once the wheel was back in the vertical plane, all the oil leaked out. After the second disassemble and mopping up I thought grease might be a better idea so stuffed a load in and around the housing where the pawls engage. The tickety-tick sound when freewheeling or back-pedaling is a lot quieter but is there a better way, particular lube I should use?
Thanks for any advice.

when i re-grease the free hub on my bicycle the clicking noise totally goes away, sometimes its tricky to get the springy pawls all pressed in at the same time some care is needed here using small electrical screwdriver.

How often should one re-grease free hub?
