[quote="Toks"][quote="Dombo"]I've never raced before but usually ride with 18s or 19s so I guess would be in the lowest possible category, 4 or 5?
I might try and give it a go. Are people riding up? If so what time setting off from CSS?

Hey Dombo I hope to see you there tomorrow. :D I think you'll find a thread not a million miles away from this one on this very point you've raised

Cheers, Toks. What is likely time of return back at CSS? Got a provisional pass for this.

Ill be there in the A race.
Sylv I don't mind letting you win this time although the taste of the checkered flag may be tempting, but we've got a pro rider to contend with first

Er...we didn't really plan for that. But I'm sure some folk will be riding back maybe even catching the final laps of the Tour of Britain. :D

Just over 25, though we did get slower as it went on. We were closer to 27 in the first half of the race, especially with the thru'n'off.

But once you have a good gap, there's not much point in killing yourself to keep the average speed up!

Yes, you had a 5-mile gap on me at one point.
Big red lantern for me then :D

Thanks to everyone for organising saturdays race, was a great day. Personally I preferred it to last years race at lingfield, I think when its an hour or so of racing circuits are better. Well done to everyone who came. Talking of average speeds, for the B race it was just over an hour of racing and the average (for me and the 3 in the break) it was just over 25mph, max was 31.something.

Congratulations to AJ, Serge? (I think that's his name, no. 103), and Paul, who despite cramping up through the last corner came in 3rd, I nearly had you! : )

Also chapeau to the "lady in pink" for flying along the back straight saying to us "what's this? A club run?!". Very swift, despite the drag provided by pigtails! : )

Finally ashame Alan got a puncture so early on in the race, he's usually right up there powering away on the runs back to Coulsdon. Cheers everyone for a great day of cycling.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Andy. Interestingly quite a few B racers actually preferred the race being held on a circuit. :D

As a B racer going on D I'd have preferred more hills. A nice 5 mile drag like Bwlch or Rhigos to help us skinny lightweights.

A closed circuit probably makes it feel safer and more controlled to people new to racing, which is a big part of the B race. If they suffer then it's easier to continue, and maybe try and latch on again when lapped, than on a road circuit where once dropped and on your tod it may feel like you're abandoned a bit.

Agreed - there was enough to think about without having to worry about traffic. Any chance of a C race next time? By the way, given the appalling traffic and driving behaviour on the way over I wouldn't encourage having a CR over there for the next event.

Hey finally, Welcome aboard Mark. Yeah I agree that wasn't exactly the safest ride for a group. When commuting through lots of traffic I tend not to think about it but in a group you quickly see how problamatic it can be negotiating everyone safely through cars, buses lorries and temperamental sets of traffic lights. Get a good base of rides behaind you this winter and you'll be in better shape next year. No C group for you I'm afraid

Let's not beat ourselves too much- Dulwich Paragon who are a little more local and even slightly bigger club, and more of a racing club than ACC if the South East rankings are anything to go by, on a day with better weather had just 20 members racing at Hillingdon (but they had to pay £5 for the privilege!!!).
