Campag chain

Postby tel » Mon Mar 03, 2014 12:46 pm

Just fitted a new Record chain-no problem, ok changing gear etc. but when I back peddle the chain comes off.

Any ideas?

The joining link is not tight-but is there a certain way round for the chain as one side is relatively smooth.

Thanks in anticipation.

Are Campag chains uni-directional? If so, have you fitted it the right way round?
That's the only obvious thing I can think of.

They aren't unidirectional to my knowledge, weren't when I used them. Only thing I can think of is worn chain rings not meshing or if you are in small ring and a smaller sprocket then too much slack in the chain, but I can't imagine that you have not trimmed the chain correctly Terry.

O/T but I remember I had the idea of trying to peddle the idea of unidirectional innertubes on Weight Weenies (the grain of the latex is specific to the rotation). May be at the start of next month.

It seems to have rectified itself. Changed the rear wheel and it seems ok. Put back the turbo wheel and there doesn`t seem to be a problem.

Funny. Thanks for the advice.

Maybe the wheel wasn't in dead true first time.

I don't think they are unidirectional although you do have to put the pin in from the correct side for the chorus 10 speed I did fairly recently. From behind with the chain the way round I had it which was the same as the diagram in the RTFM.

I struggled getting the pin in at first (as the actress said to the bishop) and had to resort to buying a better chain tool and then it worked fine.

If it happens again check the hub. It might need tightening or servicing (or new wheel if unservicable).
