Lewes Wanderers Grand Prix des Gentlemen 6/10

Paul and I were down in sunny East Sussex this morning for a Grand Prix des Gentlemen, i.e. I tow Paul round. Not so easy these days with slimline PVT in his best form for a few years. Hopefully I wasn't too slow for him.

First time I've done this course and it's really nice, some fast bits and some tough drags and lumps.

Mostly it went pretty well, I got bogged down a bit with wrong gear choice at the top of a lump and didn't realise how long or steep the final drag was but otherwise okay. Didn't actually realise how steep it was until we rode back down it back to HQ.

We had Sean Yates behind us and I was dissapointed they caught us with half a mile to go. Didn't know his pacer but clearly a rapid roadie, Shuan Reed, on a road bike with Sean glued to his wheel.

We did the 17.68 miles in 43:47 which gave Paul a vets standard of +7:59 and 6th place, only 4 seconds off 5th and the prizes.

Pete Morris towed Dom Lowden (Lewes Wanderers) to victory with +15:05 and Conall towed Christian to a Yates to fastest on actual of 36:38.

Sounds like a good ride. I saw you out early Sat morning and I thought you may be prepping for that event.

Well done and will see you on the 20th.

Terry.

Hi Terry, yes I actually got out to say hello to some folk on Saturday, albeit I turned back after Reigate Heath to save my legs for Sunday. It was good to see you bounding up the steps, going well, you'd dropped poor Mr H like last year's fashion :) .

It worked out to 24.2mph average so not too shabby, but with better fitness next year and knowing the course now I want 25mph average next time - PVT will have to work a bit harder than he did this time out.
