SCCU 100 27/7

Not fit enough to race a 100 so decided to use it as a training ride and used the fixed winter bike, sans mudguards. Is a tough course with hardly any flat on it, continual drags all the way, although the start is faster/flatter.

I couldn't find my 15 sprocket so had to use a 16 and spin a 79 inch gear. It was tough going early on on the faster bit but then as it got more lumpy the gear came to me and was happy spinning 90rpm. With a lack of prep and a small fixed gear I was hoping for an evens ride and at 50 miles was within a couple of minutes.

Things were going quite well and I was enjoying it when I punctured at 56 miles. After 10 minutes swapping a tube and inflating with a mini pump, and then realigning and tensioning the chain I couldn't be bothered to get going again after that wasted time so spun back to HQ. I found a Lewes rider there who'd also punctured at 56 miles so we must have hit the same thing, although neither of us saw anything. Mike Anton also punctured within a mile of where we had so must have been a jinx on that bit of road.

Calculating it out on the gear I was riding I did get 45,000 revs per leg of continuous pedaling at varied cadences, so whilst disappointed to DNF got the good training ride in I wanted.

Rob R-E did 5:04:19 and PVT did a brilliant 4:27:26 on his fixed TT bike with his usual massive gear on it. He should stick to racing on fixed on a crazy gear as he goes great on it. That's his best SCCU 100 that I can remember by a long way.
