That's a lot of expense to go to for an uber lightweight bike, and then stick a 750ml bottle on it :roll: .

Have you been tested again? How do you think your overall training is going (if you dont mind me asking)?

If you were sitting in and it was a short sprint, its understandable that you HR didnt max out. Bare in mind a short sprint is mainly anaerobic i.e. without oxygen which therefore does not rely on your heart.

Perhaps it's time a couple of us LBP lab rats got retested. You still out there Rob?

Regarding the heart rate stuff, I similarly experienced a high average HR, but a low max HR (169 & 179, max is 184ish) the previous week in the E123s. However, that was due to me cooking myself in the break-away and then having nothing left for that last sprint. :roll:

Excellent, another guy in the city with a fancy hat bike. I will have to meet up with him for a few glasses of Champagne over lunch at some point and discuss training techniques and what we should spend our next bonuses on. I have been eyeing up a nice Porshe 911 with a great looking bike rack. :D

If I get it Paul I will give you a lift to the races, but you will have to bring some newspaper to sit on, not having you getting the leather seats dirty.

Other reasons for variations in heart rate include:
1. cardiovascular drift
2. decreased O2 availability at higher altitudes
3. lack of sleep
4. time of day
5. medication
6. diet (e.g., caffeine)
7. recent illness/infection
8. variability of intensity and terrain
9. psychogenic factors (e.g., nervousness)
10. cadence
11. position on the bicycle, such as when time trialing
12. Hydration or lack of
13.Outside temperature
14. Level of fitness

Yes, I'm going to have to side with the LBPers on this one Toks. I have doen obscene amounts of riding at 130bpm this winter, which I suspect is more like LBP-35 for me. My endurance is definately greatly improved. Similarly to Michelle, I have only just started doing speed work, as a result my top end is nowhere to be seen right now. That said, I can ride all day and not get tired. Which will come in handy when I'm racing longer races later in the season...

Michelle and Adam of course you'd expect to see an improvement in power output at lowish heart rates with enough dedicated training. No problem there :D :D

You need a big base if you want to remain fast for a full road racing season. But I wouldn't expect most ACC'ers to know what a full season is, so that's ok.
