I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Rollers can make quite a bit of noise, worth considering depending where you wanted to use them. I don't use either as I prefer the road but when I have, rollers are a much more natural feel and a turbo feels horrible and completely uncycling like.

I'm selling my set. I got them in the summer for use this winter and had a go on them for no more than half an hour. Reason I'm selling - I live in a flat with a small baby and my wife pointed out that the rollers aren't the safest thing to have with the baby now crawling very fast.
They are Cycleops aluminium rollers with resistance, beautifully machined, smooth and certainly quieter than just about any turbo. The resistance unit means you can either have zero resistance for spinning or recovery or you can crank up the resistance for proper threshold workouts. They fold in half and are light and compact. I paid £220, yours posted for £160 if you are interested. Best thing about rollers, apart from smoothing out your pedal stroke, is that they don't knacker your tyres like turbos do so if it's chucking it down with rain outside you can just hop straight on the rollers without any flaffing with indoor tyres, skewer changes, etc.

Interesting - we have two sets of rollers (his and hers) at home and both are silent. Are you using them on some weird flooring or something?

Rob, Phil's offer is very good for that brand, snap 'em up

I don't currently have any Huw, the one's I've used have always been a bit old so looks like the rumbling that I've had in the past has gone, probably the quality of the roller and bearings. It wasn't loud in a can't hear yourself way, but more in a vibrates and amplfied through floors way. What are the newer silent ones like from underneath? In other words is there a lot of vibration transferred through the floor to those below?
