I haven't started training yet because...

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Hmmmm, good work, there's a great feature idea here. Take the most anti-coaching rider you can think of, train him up for 12 weeks on the most tightly planned, structured programme you can devise, and see what you can get out of him. Who do you think would be most eligible?

Ah yes... ANDREW GREEN!!!! Just the man!

indeed you could probably offer a prize of £1000000 for a picture of Andrew on a turbo and it would go unclaimed.

Would this be in addition to the year-long feature on the coaching benefits to Ajay?

I'm not anti-coaching. I personally do not want to follow a structured plan devised by someone else, and I do not think I would respond to it as a lack of desire to follow it strictly would almost certainly out-weigh anything it may do for me, but that doesn't make me anti-coaching. I don't doubt some people respond positively to being well coached and like to have a set of instructions to follow, just not for me.

In the same way that not following a structured plan or training to numbers (HR/power/set timings) doesn't mean you are not training, not having a coach doesn't mean you aren't being coached in some way, I just happen to be my own coach :D . Unqualified, yes; old fashioned in some of my methods, perhaps; but we get on well, and if I say so myself I think we had a pretty good season  .

 There is a very basic one gathering dust at the back of the garage, it's been out on loan to people unfortunate enough to be injured more than it's been used by me though.

You're quite right, but thats not what was implied. What you say though easily qualifies you as un-coachable though!

:D :D :D

Hey Andrew you'd be the ideal man to help me with something if you'd be so good - I've gotta submit two yearly training plans for Time Trial riders to British Cycling. This is a fairly involved process of evaluating the rider's current state of fitness, past achievements and short/medium/long term goals before prescribing a short/medium and long term training programme.

Now, one of these programmes is actually being delivered ie the rider is currently about to embark on it (No i'M NOT going to tell you who it is) and I have to submit all the training response and feedback to BC on a weekly basis for the next 16 weeks

The other is theoretical ie it has to be a genuine rider profile, goal setting, analysis and training prescription, but it stops there - the rider doesn't have to actually do the training and i don't have to follow the process of feeding back to BC - it's just so they can evaluate my ability to prescribe training to a variety of riders of different abilities and with different aims. You'd be ideal as you are experienced but have no background in being coached whatsoever and a very questioning attitude to its benefits which in this case could be quite useful.

There's not much work involved from your end - just some analysis forms, a Q and A session and some thought as to what your key events for next year are likely to be. At the end of it you get a training plan prepared by me and ratified by a national squad coach (which you can then completely discard and throw in the bin  ) who knows, you might even want to use it!!!

Chat to you tomorrow about it at the VC meet up

Good god man I'm doing coaching with British Cycling not magic with Paul Daniels :D
I
   I'm only 44 don't write me off yet guys. I've actually been inspired by lots of ACC racers/Dualathletes/TT'ers this year but and since I'm getting on a bit Alan Malarkey in paricular has stood out. I'll be back :D

I know you will - you love it too much and you ALWAYS go into a period of, how shall we put it, 'negative progression' :D in winter time.

Reports of a 'belly' are new though, this is indeed an area you haven't been to before.

Too much time in these hey Toks:

Why not try doing some cross training over the winter, so chuck in a bit of swimming, running and maybe mountain biking to spice things up a bit. BTW, did you manage to sort out your bike situation?

Cheers

Marek....

:D Not at all Paul, not got my eyes or ears closed. Happy with what I do and happy to remain happy, that's different to ostriching.

Well done on your run by the way. I take it your trip around the Cock was a run, otherwise it was damn slow for what I normally know as a 10 and you need to buck your ideas up  .
