B standard chaingang ?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

B standard chaingang ?

Postby Serge » Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:52 pm

As mentioned time for chainganging is nearly here. I would guess early febuary time.
Myself and a few others find our addiscombe chaingang a bit brutal  .
We have been known to jump in with the Dulwich one on a tuesday/wednesday/thursday, What if instead of hijacking theirs (which they dont seem to mind :) ).
We do our own, I am easy in terms of what day, just suggest one and if those of a B training group standard can all attend and stick to it then we can crack on.
I suggest the same route and format as the original.

Roll up, roll up 4th cats and wannabe fast by spring time riders :D

Good idea Serge. On the nights I feel like it I could do these as well as the A chaingang if the evenings don't clash. I really need to get some more miles in my legs. I'll be up for any night, we just need to make it a definite and hopefully get one or two others to join in.

These really are a good way of getting a bit of speed in the legs, I did a few last year with the likes of Paul H and Dom and despite being bloody hard work I soon started to see the benefits. I'm sure there must be some good 18/19's that would gain from the odd night or two of hard riding so come on, throw your name in the mix and give Serge some company, you'll feel better for doing it. :D

It would be useful - just the fun of getting home from work, getting changed and out again for me...

I'd be up for this Serge.

Weather permitting, starting from next week is good. Either Tuesday or Thursday.

I think the route from CSS out to gatwick along the A23 would be best, Exactly the same route as we use for the faster chaingang. We basically get to the main roundabout at the top of Horley and then scoot along along the A264 to Manor royal going through the centre of Gatwick airport and then back. I think its about 50 Kms only ups worth mentioning are the Merthsham drag and up through Redhill. we would meet at CSS say about 7-730pm. Normally out until about 915pm.

I know for some of us it is more convenient to leave from Elmers end (that route does have Polhill on the way back! which is good  ). Maybe we could alternate between CSS to Gatwick route and the the Elmers end to Polhill and back route. A week at one and a week at the next. Each route has its own character so perhaps mix it up it terms of length of time on the front/recovery etc.

May be some pre explained and or discussed structure to it all !?!

What do we think ? :D

I would be interested in joining a run during the week. What kind of speeds do you try to keep to ? Just so I can gauge if it is likely I can stay with the pace.

I would say the B will average around 19 mph. The beauty of these chain gangs is you dont have to do any work if your not feeling strong enough, if can hold a wheel at that speed you'll be ok. On the whole its a flat route we use on well lit main roads. Best thing to do is come along and give it a try, can always bail out halfway in if you feel lazy :D

Sounds good to me.

Any alternatives to CSS though or is it the best place for everyone>
