Nutrition

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

Nutrition

I've been doing a lot more riding of late to train for the London to Paris ride i'm doing in June.
I'm riding 6 days out of 7, varying from short sharp 1/2 hour indoor efforts to 5 hour ride on my Thursday off and a 3 hour ride on a Sunday.
I think i'm fuelling well on the bike with a mixture of flap jacks, malt loaf, carb drinks and gels. On the 65 mile ride I did last Thurs, I felt I had taken on enough to go further if I wanted.
I find the problem I have at the moment though is that i'm constantly hungry!
Take yesterday for example, I had porridge for breakfast (7.30am), did a 3 hour ride (1/2 a eat natural bar, 1 bottle of carb drink)
Had a rego shake(11.45am), showered and had 2 egg sandwiches on wholemeal bread for lunch (12.34pm).
Then I had 2 sesame seed ryvita with chicken slices on (2.00pm.)
Bag of crisps  (4.00pm).
By dinner time I was actually anxious because I was that hungry. We had a Sunday roast (6.15pm) and by 8.30pm I was still hungry so had some rice pudding.

Before anyone starts, I know 50% of what I ate yesterday wasn't deemed as "healthy" but is it normal to be eating this much or am I not eating enough?

Do you know the following? :-

How many calories are you burning per day (on and off bike)?
How calories are you consuming per day (on and off bike)?

If your still hungry late at night try consuming whey protein in water to help kill your appetite and prevent a catabolic state at night.

I think daily on the bike is normally 500-1000 calories
My garmin said on Thursday I used 4700 calories and 2500 yesterday.

I'm probably eating between 1500-2500 a day on a normal day and then more on the days I ride.
I guess looking at it here written, i'm answering my own question. Are the garmins that accurate though?

Is it just a simple case of eating 2,000 calories plus what I use whilst riding?

I have this... i do an hour on the bike 5 days a week, and then ply on my mtb for prob 2-3 hours a week, plus club runs, trips with mates ect.

Lately i have been trying to burn off my flabby belly by doing what i have deemed "fat burning sessions" holding my heart at 140bpm for 30 mins a day too on a turbo.

I eat like a horse! an utter machine. I am always hungry and i drink loads too... like 4 litres a day-people at work are constantly amazed at my intake... And i don't eat carbs in the afternoon, and i try and behave and eat a minimal fat diet.

I sometimes wonder if being hungry goes hand in hand with owning a bike!

I've dropped 2 stone since Christmas and still reckon i've got 1 more to go but I just never seem to be full!
It's really difficult balancing weight loss and hunger!

Try tracking your daily intake and excercise on this site http://www.livestrong.com under the myplate section. If you have an Iphone theres a neat app that syncs with the site. Most foods are listed and if not you can build them or choose the nearest thing to it. You will probably find that you are just not eating enough given the amount of calories you are burning in excercise.
