Chaingang 18/3/10

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

[quote="Toks"]ACC is essentially all about the saturday club run. End of! Club's half of our size have two and sometimes three official club runs per week and we don't. So it's not too suprising that given we only have a handful of regular RR's and TT's (hence not many competitive peeps) that the chaingangs aren't that popular. Of course, there are other reasons but for me thats the main one.

Heretic   Made me laugh Toks, nice one!

It often feels like what you've suggested but I don't agree entirely...

I'd like to big up the alternative club run which under the stewardship of PeteS has managed to stick, and grow in popularity (not that it's a popularity contest mind..). It's a shame that it takes such reserves of persistence to build up something just a little different. I think we miss big opportunities to let a little light in and try new things. Divert the CR to a race once in a while, e.g. I still don't understand why the CR had to go to Brighton the same day as the open 10 last Sept?? I wrote to the powers that be and suggested a reroute and got no reply. Can you imagine the feedback the club would have benefited from if the TT had 50 ACC people lining the route encouraging all the participants? Could be fantastic keep chipping away I hope we can try this out in 2010.

And no, I've nothing against going to Charlwood and back either, but near as dammit every week? Takes all sorts I guess... OK it's a good chance to catch up with folk and have a natter but the sheer size of the ride means too much hanging about, at both ends, for me to want to make a regular effort to attend. That's not a criticism - just an observation, the numbers we attract create challenges that's all I'm sayin'

And toks - we gonna see you in the trails anytime soon  bet you'd love it :D

[quote="Amy"][quote="Dan_K"]I'd be interested in a B team chaingang!

Err, it was supposed to be a B team chaingang but I think we also need a C standard chaingang - well I do for now  Though it is fun seeing how long I can hang for on the supposedly B ride - unless someone decides to really crank it up to an A standard chaingang at least

Should be up for Thursday as I'm not out otherwise this week

Well, in that case, can we start a D chaingang?! I assumed as this was the only one that I saw, it was the A group!

I've been thinking about the format - why not follow the Agreeables club run format style of thing?!

My idea is that we have the A chaingang start out first - eyeballs out kind of ride, followed by a group that has a set speed to keep to such as 19 or 20 (B), followed by another slightly slower group (C). If you want to try and push things, go with the fastest group and then just drop back to the next group when you can't hang on any more. I've not made it to the turn yet so I turn round early and try and pick up the group on the way back (didn't find anyone till Wallington...)

I think we should put a map up of the route so that everyone knows it and where to turn. And so that we wouldn't worry about any one who dropped off the back completely - though as we come back the same way we should be able to spot any real problems...

Maybe in the summer evenings we can convert this to a nicer route - such as a loop round BoxHill 8)

Think that sounds like a good idea Amy.

Different groups with start times would make it more attractive. It would mean slower riders like me would be able to progress.

Anyone able to map the route?

I think I would have the groups leave pretty closely behind each other.

I'm pretty certain I know the route but I'm not sure when I'll have time to do it and I also need confirmation of which roundabout we turn at (having not actually made it yet... :( )

Is that for the A chaingang Ed?
If so I hope to be there.

My legs will be fresh as we took it quite easy on the training camp

Very good idea re each group sticking to the same route - that really has to be the right way forward for many reasons. Thumbs up re Box Hill too :D

I'm not even going to ask for an explanation of that one

I plan to be out tomorrow with the slow(er) group - will be clearing out the last bit of a cold though

Met-Check reckons light showers till 6pm and dry thereafter. I should be ok this evening (will post again later), but usually 5 mins late reaching CSS at 7:35. Not sure what numbers are likely to be(?)
